My Great Grandfather Mark Thompson Ikin and his brother George were Maltsters in Marsh Lane Leeds (Ikins Maltsters)?. I guess this must have been in or around the 1890s perhaps. There was also an Ikin in my family somewhere who used to work at Leeds Fireclay. My Father George Brian Ikin (born 1920) was in the RAF during the war. 609 squadron based at Yeadon Airport. He was ground crew but was training to be a jet pilot when the war ended. He was stationed in Capetown South Africa and was offered a commission in Rhodesia but turned it down. He came home from the war in January 1946 when I was 10 months old. That was the first time he had seen me.
