I am tring to find the Father of James Hoyle 1811c born Woodhouse Farmer and Inn Keeper with a wife Sarah 1814c. .

In doing so I have found a Thomas Hoyle 1806c born Normanton in some census entries. Also a Farmer with a wife Sarah 1801c .
In the 1871 census he is shown as born at Woodhouse
The thing that has thrown me is they both have childen called James and Caroline. Could they be brothers?

Just a gentle nudge

I think the silence means no one can find anything, problem is familysearch.org has gaps and missing records - there are a few James's born around the time but not coming up with parents William/Frances or christened Normanton. Sometime you need to look at the actual parish records or transcripts to try to fill in the gaps.

James & Sarah didn't move around very much - this is her 1881. According to the 1871 census (same place) she was a widow, but James was around on 1861 census.

Don't know if its relevant, but the servant, Sarah Hoyle was with parents James (b c1839) & Harriett Hoyle on the 1871 census at Wakefield Sandal, but I can't read the parents birth places.

Maddie

Maddie Report 30 Jan 2011 15:30

on the 1871 James was born in Altofts as was Sarah found by Flipp in 1881

I think this is the same James, Sarah's father in 1861 - he is the son of Thomas (54) & Sarah (60) you found on the census.

So far I know that James Hoyle1840c born Altofts and Harriett 1845c born Methley were my gt gt grandparents.
I am confident his parents were James 1811C and Sarah 1814c and I think that Flip is right Sarah the servant looks as though she worked for her grandmother presumably in the inn the Mexboro Arms following the death of James.

I can't find anymore information on the parents of James senior so I think I will have to visit Wakefield to get any further.

I may come back to this thread in a few weeks to give you all an update but thanks to everyone for trying.

If it's any help, both the families of James & Thomas were on the 1841 census at Sandal.

Let us know how you get on, good luck
