Have you tried looking to see if anyone on here shares these relatives? use "search trees" above.
Do you know when she was widowed?

Hi, I believe she was widowed in about early 1942, or late as her husband was captured by the Japanese and taken on one of the prisoner of war ships which was subsequently bombed whilst travelling to Japan, they had had only 6 weeks of marriage and they would have been married in the autumn of 1941, many thanks.

Well done Zoe - I didn't look at the spouse's details, as I assumed we'd been given accurate info

There is NO marriage for Herbert S Leach in England/Wales to anyone named Dorothy

Perhaps you could check your sources, Walter

Walter Report 4 Jun 2010 13:21

Hi, Well I'm not too sure where she was born, only that my Mum met her in Aylesham, when she was between the ages of 7 and 14, as her parents moved there for the mining work, Mum does not recall her friend having say a northern accent, thank you for looking, I shall have to have another go with the WAAF, and look up marriage of DOrothy Leach, but shall have to renew my ancestry subscription. Many thanks.

So this isn't a relation?

And you've no documents of any sort?

Where did her 'husband's' name come from?

Perhaps the marriage was overseas?

Walter

Walter Report 4 Jun 2010 14:05

Humble apologies, have just checked with Mum, the name is Jack Henry Leach and Not Herbert - Herbert being the father of Dorothy's name - not sure where my head was on the 26th, Jacks father's name was Edward Thomas, thanks.

So he didn't die in 1942 - I'd discounted the above CWGC record, based on your posting

If you really wish to trace what happened to her, I think you may need the marriage cert - to find out Dorothy's age when she married, plus her second forename.

Walter

Walter Report 4 Jun 2010 14:13

Hi- not sure who I have corresponded with now, but Dorothy May Howard is the daughter of Herbert Sidney Howard, she married Jack Henry Leach son of Edward Thomas Leach, I have got the marr cert, just wondered if anyone out there, knew of these people, many thanks, shall keep looking.

You haven't corresponded with anyone specific - this is an open message board.

Hi, well now we know, how great that you have found this information, such very sad times, but at least I now know of a date to go by for searching in the WAAF and poss, from when Dorothy may have remarried. many thanks.

Was Dorothy definitely 21 when she married?

Do the names of the witnesses help?

Thank you so much everyone for all your help, I don't suppose anyone can look up Dorothy May Leach, to see if she did re-marry, I know It is a lot to ask, but I would so love to get more info for my Mum, she is 90 this month and to maybe find her long lost friend, would be so wonderful, but do realise that it might be quite difficult and not everybody is so lucky to live as long as my Mum. thanks.

Walter

Walter Report 4 Jun 2010 14:26

Hi, yes she must have been about that age, if she was the same age as my Mum, and my Mum got married at the age of 18 in 1938 and Dorothy married in 1941, the witnesses were just the 2 fathers. Before Dorothy married she was a nurse at Whipps Cross Hosp, but she would have had to leave when she married, I have been in touch with the Hosp, but not replies as yet. thanks.
