HI there
I am trying to trace the background of my Great Grandmother and her family from Scotland and later Birmingham. Her name is Hannah Towns Hopeton - father was John and mother was Flora. Has anybody any info on what part of Scotland the family originated from. She came to New Zealand in 1921 after marring a William Thomas Jackson - upholster from Birmingham. Hope somebody can help me - keep coming up against dead ends.

Thanks for your help and advice team. Just wondreing if anybody has any further information on Catherine Reid or Elgah Hopton. Is the name Elgah a Scottish equivalent of anything?
Apparently the Hoptons lived at Hoptoun House while livng in Scotland - I presume it was in the servants quarters but would love to find out more.
I am hoping I can find more family trees with connections to mine and that I can make contact with any relatives that may be overseas that I can make contact with- no matter how distant I am very, very interested.

I have not heard of the name Eglah /Elgah before but it could be a misprint
