Find Ancestors

Looking for relations to the HOOK family, mainly ELIZABETH HOOK who married a GEORGE STAYNER ( the name later became STAINER). They married on 2 February 1789 in the parish of Bath Abbey SOMERSET. Had one daughter that I know of Sophia Stainer who later married James Evans in Walcot Somerset on 12 July 1836. Does anyone have any information please.???? many thanks Linda.

Can you find anything on Sophia Stainer marring in St. Swithins Church Walcot Bath Somerset on 12/7/1836 to James Evans . As far as we know James was a carpenter. They had a son William Evans who married MaryAnn Mead 21st August 1870. Long shot but I have faith in you, you found the Turpins so quickly.

There won't be a marriage certificate as civil registration didn't begin until 1837. There will be an entry in the Parish Register only which is copied above.

Oh shoo.... that's a shame, getting so much help from all of you. I just need to find more about James Evans his parents etc where he was from, when the family moved to Chelsea London. etc.

Can't find him in 1841 for definite.
Also Sophia Stainer above was born 1806 but the one who is married to James Evans was born 1816. Do we have the right one??

For Sophia Stainer I have the following:
Baptism 31 August 1806 Parish Overcrompton Dorset
parents George and Elizabeth Stayner.
The Elizabeth nee HOOK. (cannot find anything on her prior to this marriage)
Then James Evans and Sophia's marriage 12 July 1836 Think they are one and the same, where did you get the date 1816?

The census i posted for her and James is the 1851 and she is 35 years old. She is consistent with being born 1815/1816 throughout the census records.

She is definitely the same one. Thank you so much. Just a shame we don't know more about James Evans just his marriage then living in Chelsea.
Cheeky of me I know but would you be able to find anything out about Sophia's mother. Elizabeth Hook. married 2 feb 1789 to George Stayner in BATH ABBEY SOMERSET.

I'm really not sure how you can say it is definiely her when her age is out by 10 years and wasn't your Sophia born in Dorset whereas this Sophia gives her place of birth as Somerset?
