Find Ancestors

Hi,

I've found the death of Ronald Holmes Dec. 1996 Spalding, giving his DOB as being 10:02:1916. Maybe I've overlooked something, but I can't find that birth.

He had a sister Dorothy Holmes , DOB 02:09:1923. Father George William Holmes ( Colliery Hewer) & Mother Edith nee Turton. The address given as 5 Genoa St., Mexborough. Sub District - Barmborough in the District of Don Valley County of York (WR).

If anyone could help me with this query, I should be very grateful.

Unless you obtain the death cert, you have no way of knowing where this man was born

Birth certs don't use the word 'nee'..........is Edith described as 'formerly' Turton?

Hi Carole - as Flick says the dob on a death certificate isn't necessarily 100% accurate (I should know, I registered my own father's wrongly).

The reason I wanted to find his parent's marriage was for timescale. If perhaps he was born before the marriage then he may have been registered in his mother's maiden name.

If Edith was definitely his mother then was there a chance she may have been married before?

Flick - The info passed on to me from Dorothy's birth cert. was Mother Edith Holmes nee Turton. Maybe it should have read formerly not nee !!

Marie - I'm wondering myself whether Ronald was born before the marriage !!!

It was the informant to Ronald's death who passed on the info. to me.
He doesn't know much about the family !!

Just a thought Carole, do you know if Ronald ever married?

So the info that Ronald was Dorothy's brother has been given to you by someone who doesn't really know the family?

Which means that he may have given incorrect info when registering the death..................has he given you any idea of where he thinks Ronald was born?

Incidentally - what marriage? No-one has been able to find one.............

I think you need a sight of Dorothy's birth cert...............purely for clarification

Hi Marie .... He supposedly marr. twice, but I think there's something a bit odd here !!!

I found the marr. of a Ronald Holmes to Jane A Harris at Spalding 1937, but I don't know how accurate this is.

I was told that his first wife was called Jenny/Jennifer, and maybe the surname was Hull....but again my informant was not sure !!

The Edith nee Turton poses a bit funny as well.....She died as Edith Pockerington regt. june 1962 age 73 at Samford. A Marshall Pockerington was supposedly her second husband......This marr. I can't find, so I'm wondering whether she was ever marr. to either of the so-called husbands, and perhaps changed her name with the latter one.

Flick - I'll have to pass these names on to the family who hopefully might be able to shed some light on them. I only started wih Ronald myself.

Marshall's army pension records are on ancestry, they state he was separated from his wife "some long time and no idea as to her present whereabouts"
