Find Ancestors

Could someone please look up the marriage record for Hannah Garbutt, born Bilsdale area 1848 to Susannah Boyes (no father named). Hannah was originally christened Hannah Boyes, but changed her name before 1861 census to Hannah Garbutt, (after her mother married John Garbutt). Thank you.

Do you know who she married? Have you looked on FreeBMD? There are loads of Hannah Garbutt marriages...

No Sam, unfortunately, thats what I don't know, and am trying to find out. I've looked on Free BMD.Its a bit difficult as there are a number of Hannah Garbutts, and Hannah Boyes and I don't want to start paying for loads of certificates. Regards

Well if you don't know which one is the one you want then I'm not sure how we would know :-)

Which is the last census you can find her on as a single woman and where is she living at the time? It may be easier to try and narrow it down that way.

I know Sam, its driving me mad... I think I have her on the 1861 census working as a servant in the Parish of Lastingham, she is living with a family named Featherstone.

Thanks Mel, I have her on that one! Then can't find her as a Boyes on 1861 census, but may have her as a Garbutt working as a servant....

Sorry Henry Head is Susanna's born Bilsdale brother and it seems that Hannah had a brother Garbutt. Susanna down as Ag Lab.

Diane yes I think I saw one who was a servant but there is another Hannah born about the same year!!

On the 1851 census I have just noticed that next door is a Robert Garbutt widowed aged 50 with daughter Mary, Son George 18 and dau Hannah 8 and granchild Racheal 1.

Hi again Mel, well maybe I can rule that Hannah Garbutt out because if she was 8 in the 1851 census that would have made her born 1843 and I'm sure my Hannah was born 1848 (sure as i can be!!!) Thanks

Thanks for your help, I think I will spend time looking at the Yorkshire BMDs and the Free BMDs and see what I can get maybe I'll strike lucky. Looks like no housework today!!!
