Comparing the signature of recruit on his army records with the 2 census returns found by Astra on 1911, I would say that the second one, with wife Annie + family is 'your man', even though occupation has changed.

That is, of course if we have the correct army records !! ??

Dawn - could you compare the signature from the wedding cert you have with the Army records please and let us know ?

Thanks,

Dea x

Astra

Astra Report 13 Mar 2010 07:55

Just reaslised it's the father and not the son on the army record...he is paying a separation allowance by 1918 so they could no longer be together which points to the first one.

Dea

Dea Report 13 Mar 2010 08:05

Yes Astra - I noticed that, and the seperation allowance which had a date stamp of August 1918, yet his next of kin was still down as wife Annie around that same date.

I am not sure on this - there are 3 possible marriages around that same time and place for an Albert Martin to an Annie.

I have asked Dawn to compare the signature on the marriage cert to the one on Army records - this should help?

Dea x

EDIT:

Ohhh Astra you ARE funny !! - I have just seen your post above about only just realising that you are following the father not the son !!!

I don't believe this one is the one we want. !!! and I suspect the Army records belong to this one?

It may just be the one living with the housekeeper on 1911 who is the one we want?

WWWoow!!

So Albert made an 'honest woman' of Sarah in 1912.

Marriages Dec 1912

BRADLEY Ada Kay Sheffield 9c 1298
KAY Bernard H Bradley Sheffield 9c 1298
***MARTIN Albert Taylor Sheffield 9c 1298
***Taylor Sarah Martin Sheffield 9c 1298

What happened to his wife??

Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 13 Mar 2010 09:55

To answer my previous question - his wife seems to have died in that same quarter:

Deaths Dec 1912

Martin Annie 29 Sheffield 9c 573

They didn't waste much time sorting out the marriage then?

I wonder what happened to 'little' Albert and where he and his mother Annie were on 1911?

Dawn

I 'suspect' you may be in a different time zone to the UK?

When you come back, could you please post ALL the details from that marriage cert. - Everything, ages, occupations, fathers, addresses, church etc., and witnesses.

Thanks,

Dea x

Sorry guys for not getting back to you all but i live in countryside in southern ireland .Saturdays is the only day i get to go shopping with 8 kids to see too i only get to go on computer when theyve gone to bed.Annie Martin (nee hague)died on the 2nd of october 1912 10 court 4 house Bard street.housekeeper wife of Albert Martin general carter.Annies age on cert 29 years.Ihave a copy of marriage cert but it is a hand writtern copy so cannot clarify signatures. On cert it states Albert Martins father was John Martin deceased coal heaver.Alberts age 26 on cert so that means he was born 1880 + or - a year.
Albert Hague was born 20 july 1904.On his birth cert his mum Annie was a domestic servant of 24 fowler street sheffield. We found Albert Hague was brought up by his aunt when his mother died. His aunt was Sarah Ellershaw nee Hague she was Annies sister.
Does this help at all.thanks guys for all your efforts so far.DAWN

Astra Report 14 Mar 2010 07:52

This must be Sarah Ellershaw as she has a Hague staying with her but there is no Albert in 1911. He's not at Fowler Street and 10 Court 4 House Bard Street isn't listed. Only 10 Court 1 House and then it goes to 12. Can't find them in any of those.

That's them Astra.

Dennis is Sarah + Annie's father.

Still can't find Annie though !

Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 14 Mar 2010 08:48

It does look even more likely that we have the correct Albert Martin - parents John & Jane. (Father was John on cert - coal heaver, deceased).

They were living in Bernard Street which was next to Bard Street so another 'plus'.

This is the one posted by Astra on 1911 living with Sarah Taylor who he married immediately after Annie died.

Dea x

P.S. - found 10Ct 4 house Bard Street on 1911 - occupied by George Beeley + wife + boarders called Housgo - no sign of Annie + Albert there!
