James was born in Chiswick, Middlesex. A florist/nurseryman, he married Harriet Wood and had four known children: Michael Edward, Alfred John, Harriet and James, who all married. The extended family lived around Paddington and Marylebone areas. They were buried either in Kensington cemetery, Hanwell or in Fulham.

I'd like to find out about James' ancestors. A family story says a Greig came from Scotland and bought land in Paddington to start a market garden.
