Russell Report 17 Dec 2010 18:05

Hi,

Through the 1861 census I discovered that my gx2 grandfather George Thomas Gray (b. 1853, Shotton Colliery, Co. Durham) had several siblings, the youngest being Joseph Grey (we now spell it Gray) born circa 1857 in Shotton Colliery, Co. Durham.

I am trying to find out more information on Joseph, his wife, children etc. and also if the name changed back to 'Gray' with an 'a'.

Many thanks in advance,
Russ

Russ, you ask if the name changes back to GrAy but you say you spell it that way now. Do you mean in Joseph's case, or do you mean when?

Thats great information MarieCeleste, thanks very much. I can now fill in Anns married name and have some idea when Elizabeth dies. Also our current form of spelling Gray returns, I presume it was written down in the census incorrectly.

Is there any way of finding out who and when Joseph married and who what were the childrens names?

Many thanks again,

Russ

Have you found any of the family on any census after 1871?

Russell

Russell Report 18 Dec 2010 15:50

Hi Mac,

Not as far as Joseph is concerned I haven't.

I have through my didect line though ie. my g g grandfather, George Thomas Gray, but that was some time ago and I don't have access to the census now.

I can't find any of the other family members on 1881 census - where did you find George on the later census, have you still got your notes? (give me an idea and I may be able to locate him again). Sometimes families move around together, but this family seems to have disappeared, can't even find the married daughter.

Hi Mac,

George Thomas Gray is on the 1891 census with his wife Ruth and children John W, Thomas S. (my g grandfather), Isabella S, George T. Elizabeth J. and Richard H. S. and also the 1901 census with his new wife, Catherine. I cannot find any death for George Thomas incidently, I would love to find out where and when he died.

I don't seem to have them on the 1881 census either for some reason??

Thanks Mac,

Russ
