David Gilder is my G. G. Grandfather. We beleive he had 7 children. Thomas (my G. Grandfather )b.1851, Martha b.c1852, Emma b.c1854, James b.c1860, Charles b.c1863, David b.c1865 and Sophia b.c1867. According to the 1871 census, by the age of 20, Thomas was Head of the household, 4, Union Cottages, Moor(e) Terrace, Chatham, Borough of Lambeth, a bricklayer, and caring for all 6 of his siblings. We know, through Thomas's marriage certificate, that his Father David Gilder was still alive in 1889. We can find no trace of David. Why did he/wife desert their young family? Grateful for any help - thank you Deb |
