My g'dad george john johnson b1877, m1898 to jane ann welch all saints church, south acton brentford middx. We have found him in census (up tp 1911)but can't seem to find his birth record, we believe he was born in the same area that he was married in. Any clues would be great, thank you.

sorry I only just realised I said census up to 1911, I should have said only the 1911, so I'm afraid all I know for sure is his father's name.

I think I'll try and follow this one up.

George John Johnson, bach , 22, cabinet maker of 9 York Street, son of John Johnson cabinet maker, married Lucy Godier, spinster, 21, of 12 York St, daur of Thomas Godier, weaver.

Both bride and groom made their mark rather than signed their name. Witnesses were James Duke and Susan Godier.

With a name like Godier and the weaving profession, tempting to wonder about Hugenot descent?
