HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHAT HIS MOTHERS NAME AND HIS WIFES NAME WERE WITHOUT BIRTH AND MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES THAT FAR BACK. THANK YOU.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 30 Mar 2010 19:35

Where?

Civil registration began in England in 1837 and Scotland in 1855

If Scotland then the marriage cert would give the full names of his parents

Sam

Sam Report 30 Mar 2010 19:37

Birth certificates and marriage certificates do go that far back - English and Welsh ones at least. Where was he from?

Hi sam and glitterbaby, thanks for your replies, newton-le-willows has come up if that helps.

Presumably you got back to them through one of their children. A birth certificate for the child would give the mother's name.

Can you give us the information that you have please? We may then be able to help.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

McCormick is an Irish name and the Angus bit certainly sound Scottish!

Can you tell us please the details of the birth of his child please and we can try to find the family on some census records for you, if that would help.

Susan

I think the problem here is the lack of actual certificates. Are you going back using word of mouth information. I suspect that that Warrington birth could be the son of the George that died in 1938. Notice that that George didn't have a middle name on the death registration. My father was named (with the same middle name) for his father and grandfather and throughout his life he used his full name on all documents - even on a quick signature (eg when signing our homework). So I am wondering if the George (b. 1854) was just plain George!

Remember too, that people don't always give their true ages on official documents. Nor did they always give the correct names for their fathers on marriage certificates.

I think if it was me, I would be ordering that 1880 birth certificate.
