I am trying to find information about Barbara Gander, born 1930 ish in the Bristol area. Does anyone have this in their tree please?

No birth registration for a Barbara Gander in Gloucestershire around that time.

No, she wasn't married at the time, and the only information I have on the birth certificate is that she was from Bristol. Unfortunately no father is mentioned. Something of a puzzle I'm afraid! Is it possible to get further information when I have so little to go on, I wonder.

I was adopted, but unfortunately for some reason I have no adoption papers. It would have helped a lot. It may be that they were destroyed. All I have is a copy of my original birth certificate, which isn't very helpful, but did give me the name of my birth mother.

No, the other way round, the certificate states where she was born, so can be out of the area where the mother normally lives

Elizabeth, I think we might be getting in a muddle.

Am I right in thinking that you have a birth certificate of somebody born in Bristol, and the mother is Barbara Gander, and from the date of the birth (say 1950), you are assuming the mother is born about 1930 also in Bristol.

Is that right?

In which case, the mother could have been born anywhere and be anything between about 15 and 45 when the child was born in Bristol.

It looks as though Barbara Alice Gander, born in East Ham is the right one. I assumed (seems wrongly) that because the birth certificate gave a Bristol address, that she was born there. Have trawled through 20-odd years worth, but the East Ham 1929 dob is the only one that fits. Also, she seems to have married Angus Maclean in 1954, and had a daughter, Marjorie Alice. Marjorie was the middle name I was given at birth, and also appears as Barbara's mother's name - Marjorie Alice Temple. So far I have been unable to trace whether Barbara's daughter has married, or had children. Any thoughts?

Elizabeth, I've already searched for marriages for the children - for some of them no luck, for most of them too many to pin down, and none in the right area. Of course by then people were moving all over the country, or emigrating, so they could be anywhere.
