I'm trying to find relatives of Frances Williams who was married to John Firth (1876) from South Willingham, Lincolnshire.
I'm not sure if she was born in Leeds or Ireland but my Mum seems to think there was an Irish connection.
1911 Census shows her living with Walter Blackburn and 2 childrenEllen4 & Walter 2Firth but my Mum says there were two other children Elizabeth & Jack who I can't find.
Ellen Firth was my Mum's mother but on her birth certificate it shows her mother's maiden name as Blackburn.
I found WW 1 records showing John Firth joined the Yeomanry on 1909 for 4 years.
Please help me solve the mystery.
Many thanks

Sorry!
My grandmother name was Ellen Firth married to John Firth
My mother's name is Rosanna Marshall (1925) and on her birth certificate her mother's maiden name was Blackburn Also the same name on her sister's birth certificate and my mother always thought her mother was a Blackburn.

I assume one of these is your grandmother's birth.

you may need to buy one or both of these to find the names on the certificate.

Marilyn

Would you like to try again with this, your first post and the ammendment don't even tally!!

Your mother was registered 2 years before you think she was born.... do you have the actual cert?

It seems there are massive confusions here..

Wanna try again?

Sorry!!

Ok I'll try again!!! and I'm not drinking Vodka only coffee!!
My mother is Roseanna Marshall (1923) my mistake - you have the right birth certificate.
Her mother is Ellen Firth (1906) born in Grimsby -
Her marriage certificate shows her maiden name as Firth - my mother has this. (Ellen Firth married Frank Marshall July, aug, or spt 1922)
Her grandmother is Frances Williams (1876) married to John Firth so I have already queried this and found out that Frances was living with Walter Blackburn with Ellen Firth age 4, & walter Firth 2 in Hull on 1911 Census.
But I can't find any more relatives of Frances- my Mum thinks there is some connection with Ireland as she went there with her Mum to look for family probably in the 1940s as my grandmother died at 48 (in 1954)
Is this better?

Hi
just checking, do you have Ellen's birth certificate?

Marilyn

Marilyn Report 6 Sep 2009 22:36

no I don't think so - only the marriage certificate - but she was only 16 when she got married so she couldn't have been married before. My mum says my grandad was with Ellen from her being 12.

Hi
how do you know that your mum's grandmother was Frances Williams?

Did your mum know her?

Marilyn

Marilyn Report 6 Sep 2009 22:45

Walter Firth was Ellen Firth's brother - they were both born in Grimsby but in the 1911 Census they were living in Hull with Walter Blackburn (45) single and Frances Williams was his housekeeper.
I found a ww1 record which showed John Firth (married) signed up to the army for 4 years from 1909 so that's why he isn't on the 1911 census anywhere.

Yes my mum did know her.
I found Frances Williams born in Ireland on 1901 census working as
mother's help in Streatham.
In the same census John firth was also single working as a groom.
