don't worry about the different spelling of Foster - it does seem to be the correct family - there are often variations in the spelling of names

alexandre

alexandre Report 26 Mar 2011 22:27

so is it possible to work out where robert comes from is he a cousin to one of these names as he isnt in their list thanks

Rambling Report 26 Mar 2011 22:37

First of all you are going to have to find Robert in 1871 , then work out who the others are

this 'may' be his birth

Alexandre, do you have a marriage cert for Robert to Anna Mary?

alexandre

alexandre Report 26 Mar 2011 22:52

no ive got nothing just the names and the place boosebeck

Rambling

Rambling Report 26 Mar 2011 22:56

right, the first step is to make sure you have the right details, what are you absolutely certain of, and we can work backwards from that ?

You will need to get the marriage certificate to be sure of father as it's not an unusual name.

Rambling

Rambling Report 26 Mar 2011 23:46

work back from what you know Alexandre, the most recent first so if you are sure James is 'yours' getting his marriage cert will give you father's name and occupation and that will help when looking at the census :)

leave the thread up and then come back to it (by clicking on 'my thread participation' in left hand menu)...and we can hopefully help a bit more.
