Hi janet and Helen. I'm not progressing very well at the moment but I came across the following info as I looked - In the 1891 census an Ephraim and Mary Forse and their son William who was born in Cullompton Devon were living at Pentre Glamorgan - so my granny wasn't the first to move to Wales! Also came across someting on Devon surnames. In 1332 the people who paid the higher rate of tax had proper surnames.(12pence).The lower rate of 8pence was paid by people who did not have surnames but were referred to by their Christian names and the place where they lived. Among those names was Robto atte Forse ! Keep in touch, Chris |
