Henry David FOLLETT was a London butcher in the 1840s, but where was he born, and who were his parents? I would appreciate any help in finding his origins (birth record/parents). The name could be Le FOLLET or La FOLLETTE.
He married Alse/Alice BARRETT 28 June 1829 at St Pancras, London (both were of that parish, marriage record found on Ancestry). In 1841 this couple are recorded at St Margaret, Westminster, along with 4 children:- Henry FOLLETT (40) Alse FOLLETT (25, should be 35?) Sarah FOLLETT (11) Henry FOLLETT (7), Maria FOLLETT (5), Alice FOLLETT (2), all born Middlesex.
Henry David FOLLETT died 8 March 1845, death registered at Westminster, I have a copy of the record and no birthplace or parents are named. Occupation – butcher. Age at death given as 49 years, so I'm looking for a birth around 1796 .
I have not found birth records for any of the children of Henry & Alse. I am most interested in their daughter Maria, it is her line I am following. In 1851 she is recorded aged 15, birthplace Marylebone. I have details of her marriage to William EDMONDS in Nov 1857 (Kensington) and passage to New Zealand in 1858. When she died in 1914 her age was given as 76, suggesting an 1838 birthdate, but the age 5 recorded in 1841 would imply 1835-6.
Maria's daughter (Henry David's granddaughter) has her mother's maiden name as La FOLLET on her marrige certificate, and Le FOLLET on her death certificate. Which is why I search also for the alternatives Le/La FOLLET(TE). Or transcriptions could give FOLLIT, FALLET, FOLLET, etc.
The Alse/Alice BARRETT who married Henry David FOLLETT was born Clapham, Surrey about 1804 according to the 1851 census. I suspect she was the Alice BARRETT christened Dec 1801 in Clapham (IGI) , d/o William BARRETT & Alice DYE. She may be the Alice FOLLETT whose death was recorded at Westminster in 1853. But I do not have that certificate for confirmation.
In my search for Henry David I found (on Ancestry) a baptism for his son Henry FOLLETT in July 1853 (not an infant, he was born c1834 by census data). And this Henry (junior) I found on later census's as a butcher in London. But please don't spend valuable time searching for this Henry junior or other FOLLETT descendants. My interest is focussed on the ancestral line – i.e. Maria FOLLETT c1836 Henry David FOLLETT c1796 Alice/Alse BARRETT c1804 and their ancestors. I have mentioned finding some records on Ancestry, having consulted the library edition of this program, but I do not have full access.
Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to look into this family.

Thank you LadyKira and Chris So a baptism transcribed as Tollett - I shouldn't be so surprised, F and T do look similar in the script of that time! Well done! Yes stange that young Henry was not baptised 'til about 20 yrs - and long after the death of his father.
Really appreciate your input Anne

I was wondering about his trade, He is not described as master butcher. But maybe he did servr an apprentice ship.On the baptism Chris found he is described as a victualer. Trades were often passed on in families, Roots chat can be good for that.

I had to look up victualer, that is a new one. I have found the occupation Butcher on Henry David's death cert, also when his daughter Maria married - she married twice and both times described her father as a butcher. And I think the 1841 census image had him down as a butcher also. But I cannot access that image from here to check this. So could he have been a victualer as well as a butcher?
What is roots chat, I am not familiar with that? Anne

If Henry (junior) wasn't baptised til he was 20, then I suspect that his younger sisters would not have been baptised as infants either. Anne

you may have heard of victualer as it is pronouncd "vitler"
Victualler 1) A tavern keeper - see Licensed Victualler. 2) Provided army, navy, or merchant ships with food supplies
Licensed Victualler A Tavern or Innkeeper or Publican- term still used today for someone who runs a Pub (Public House)

Sorry I posted some time after I read it and did it from memory. Chris was right with the provisions dealer.
Google rootschat
It is a genelogical forum that is good for narrowing things down by proffesion or place as well as surname.

Thank you all I'm glad we have cleared up the Provisions Dealer / Victualer issue. So Henry David probably wasn't an Innkeeper - what a relief ( his daughter Maria can rest easy, she was apparently a leading member of the Women's Christian Temperance Association, so having a victualer for a father would not have gone down well !! )
If he was a provisions dealer in 1830, perhaps he did not take up butchery until later in the 1830s.
I shall investigate Rootschat.
And Re the baptism at age 20 of Henry junior, I have just realised that the 1853 date coincided with the presumed date of death of his mother, maybe that explains it?
Many thanks for your input. Anne
