Hi, I have become stuck trying to trace my fathers side of the family. My fathers greatx2 grandmother was Mary Ann Finn (Born ABT 1850) and married John Barnaby. I believe when they married her surname was actually Murray as she was a widow. Her father was Dominick Finn Born ABT 1820 in Ireland i believe but i can't seem to find anything on him. |

Well, unless you have other evidence for their fathers' names I would consider getting it. How certain are you this is them? |

I am fairly certain as i had someone else look at it and he found on someones tree the marriage was on 4th Dec 1876 in Lowestoft. going back from my dads grandmother; |

I have spoken to the guy and the person he has spoken to who has the cert said at the time of marriage she was 26 years old (Widow) and her father was Dominick Finn. |

This must be them 1891. I know this seems a bit off-centre, but always good to establish a few facts: |

Just wondering how you know maiden name of Mary? Do you have a birth cert of one of the children? |

This one sounds a bit closer as i remember the other guy i was speaking to mentioning an Alice Maud Barnaby as a daughter which he is living with in 1911 census along with his niece Kate and Mary died 1908. |

Yes, unfortunately she had died by 1911 so no clues there re. birthplace: |

I agree Dave, The golden rule - start with what you know! I think all the above are the same family - unlikely to be 2 John Barnaby's born Lowestoft and living in Hull! But Violet's birth cert is definitely where to start, or even her marriage as you kinow about that for certain. |
