Emma Knock and George Buckenham are already in my family tree.

Thanks for all your help.

Oh my!

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Tool No. 1. ;)

I had checked there already for a Buckenham child with a Ruston mother, but there were none. (You can search that way after 1911 at FreeBMD.)

There were two Buckenham births in Worksop after the 1911 census; mother was Knock. The only marriage that matches is:

Marriages Sep 1909
BUCKENHAM George William Mitford 4b 529
KNOCK Emma Jane Mitford 4b 529

All of the children were hers from my family bible. But whether Stephen was Williams who knows.

My grandfather is Frederick Charles born Buckenham, but changed by the time he left school - i have the school certificate- to Buckingham.

The death looks about right, i made her out to be 47 in 1924 rather than 50. She possibly moved back to her home town in norfolk. Though where she and stephen were living i dont know. she obviously didnt want to be found. Her husband William was a heavy drinker - according to my mum - and not a particulary nice man, which is probably why she left him.

I have been looking for her about 6 years now and am so disappointed she isnt on the 1911 census.

Tell me, how do you manage to find births and deaths so quickly without trawling though all the registers?

Also, would you able to find if william and lily had a child together please. I have been told that they did.

Re Lily Marshall -- I think Lily Marshall in 1911 is Head of household, occupation Housekeeper, rather than "head housekeeper". She probably entered it that way because the real "head", William, was in hospital, and she was really the housekeeper.

She was born Ruston; 1911:

Name: Lily Marshall
[Lily Ruston]
Age: 26
Estimated birth year: abt 1875
Relation: Daughter
Spouse's name: Joseph
Father's Name: William
Mother's Name: Emily
Where born: Barroby, Lincolnshire, England

Civil parish: Thorpe Salvin
Town: Canal Side
County/Island: Yorkshire

William Ruston 46
Emily Ruston 45
Lily Marshall 26
Joseph Marshall 23
William J Marshall 11 months

Deaths Mar 1909
MARSHALL Joseph 26 Worksop 7b 23

Births Dec 1906
Marshall Charles William H Worksop 7b 25

So it does look like William Buckenham and Lily Marshall were not together until 1909 at least -- if they were together and she wasn't actually just the housekeeper, which is entirely possible.

Btw - this was all in aid of finding peripheral info that could help identify Elizabeth and Stephen in 1911, because I had no more luck than anyone else!

It just seemed that if she took only Stephen with her, he might not have been William's at all, and some of the older children might not have been hers, if they had separated earlier ...

Just curious - do you have the birth for

BUCKENHAM, Daniel 7 1904 Derbyshire Clowne

? Ann and Frederick, older and younger, appear in Worksop:

Births Dec 1902
BUCKENHAM Frederick O Worksop 7b 57
Births Dec 1905
Buckenham Anna Worksop 7b 49
Births Mar 1907
BUCKENHAM Stephen Worksop 7b 46

but no Daniel, there or anywhere else. (I searched for surname Buck* as well.)

Daniels born in Worksop 1902-1905 are Ward, Hillan, Ingram, Barfoot.

Hmm. Also no birth anywhere for

BUCKENHAM, Richard 10 1901 Norfolk Shouldham

There is:

BUCKENHAM, Arthur 2 1899 Norfolk Shouldham

Births Jun 1899
Buckenham Arthur Downham 4b 349

And

BUCKENHAM, John Thomas 13 1898 Norfolk Shouldham

was born 1897 Downham.

So that makes

John Thomas Buckenham 1897 Norfolk
Arthur Crane 1899 Norfolk
Richard ? c1901 Norfolk?
Frederick Buckenham 1902 Worksop
Daniel ? c1904 Worksop?
Anna Buckenham 1905 Worksop
Stephen Buckenham 1906 (reg 1907) Worksop

The parents married in 1897.

Marriages Sep 1897
Buckenham William Downham 4b 643
CRANE Elizabeth Ann Downham 4b 643

so it all doesn't quite add up! What am I missing??

Ah, the household in 1901 in Shouldham, Norfolk:

William Buckenham 24
Elizabeth A Buckenham 24
John Thos Buckenham 3
Arthur Buckenham 2
Richard Wm Buckenham 4 months

... but still no birth for Richard.

-- edit --
Aargh. With the census info, found:

Births Dec 1900
Buckenha Richard William Downham 4b 329

-- edit again --

Argh again? --

Births Mar 1904 ?
Buckingham Robert Daniel Worksop 7b 56

Is no relationship given for Frederick, Daniel and Anna in 1911? They don't answer to boarder or son/daughter on a free search.

What I'm wondering is whether they actually were Elizabeth's children. If not, this could help date a separation, which could be helpful.

William continued to live in Whitwell after Elizabeth had left.

Lynne

Lynne Report 8 Jun 2010 17:44

Stephen would have been 4 or 5 in 1911.
In 1906, Elizabeth still lived in Whitwell.

He did remarry, my family tell me someone who was his housekeeper, thought the name of Sarah, but it is possible this is same person.
Havent found marriage though so maybe they just co-habited. Oh and had a daughter named Lily surprisingly.

She isnt listed nor Stephen . wonder if she moved in with a new man and is listed under his name.
Divorce wasnt easy to get then and was really only for the wealthy that could afford it .
Cant see her husband William either
