birth search for Dunstan in australia

My Great Grandmother was born Lilian May SECCOMBE in Kapunda, SA in 1876. She married Thomas Henry DUNSTAN in1896 in WA. They were divorced in 1923, whilst Lilian was living in NZ. I have just received her death certificate which states she had two daughters who would be 48 (c1901) and 46 (c1903) at time of her death. I'm assuming these children where from this marriage. I have done an internet search thru the BDM's and have come up empty handed.

Can anyone help me please?

The only problem with all that info

.......... Lilian May SECCOMBE in Kapunda, SA in 1876 ............

not born 1872 in NSW, lol. although the person who submitted that material could have been mistaken but that would make all the rest of it even more unreliable

Seccombe is a Cornish name, there was quite a bit of Cornish emigration to Australia in the mid 1800s I believe especially miners and such, it wouldn't be surprising to find two Lilians born fairly close together in time probably.

Paula does the death certificate give the daughters' names, it is rather hard for anyone else to search without that information if it is available.

My goodness ... so much more information ............. but so very confusing.

If Lilian May Seccombe Dunstan divorced her husband Thomas Henry Dunstan in 1923 ........... then he had to be alive in 1923 ............. so I don't understand what all that information is about ...............

Paula if it is the daughters' names you are looking for I wonder whether the death certificate for Thomas Henry Dunstan might give any information, do Australian death certificates give the number of children but not the names?

Could this be his death

27393/1945
DUNSTAN THOMAS HENRY
THOMAS his father
FANNY his mother
PARRAMATTA district

or is this something you already know about and have checked

removed it all - would not wish to cause confusion

What state did your Lilian die in?

Lilian has been that ancester that you knew there was more to find. I keep uncovering details about her.
Chrissie, yes the Seccombes immigrated on the ship 'Tudor' and father was a Miner. And yes I am thinking I may need to order his death certificate as well.

Lilians' death certificate is a NZ one and it does not give names, only ages. I didn't know they exsisted.

I did't want to confuse the issue too much. But Lilian had a son (my grandfather) in 1912 and subsequently divorced Thomas in 1923 and married my great grandfather two days later. Family resemblence indicates he isn't Thomas' son.

I have ordered her and Thomas' marriage certificate.

Don't see any in WA or NSW.

Have you viewed this site?

There is one Dunstan marriage in NZ up to 1920 .......... oh yes I see Catherine has put the site ........

1919/374
Susan Dunstan
Hugh Mayne

There are two Susan Dunstan births 1880 to 1901, that marriage could be one of them

1884/4467 Dunstan Susan
Susan
Charles

1880/6608 Dunstan Susan Anna
Eliza Jane
William

but maybe 1919 was a little late to expect them to be marrying. Possibly it was one of Lilian's daughters .............

Thanks for hints and info. As the girls were not part of the family I was assuming they were still in australia. Will wait on certificates I've ordered and continue from there. Thanks all.

Hi ..........just to add to the 'mixture' ......there's a WA death 1898 for a Cecil Dunstan b Pt German SAus ............parents Thomas Henry Dunstan & Marie Watson (not sure if 'Watson' should be in brackets as 'nee').

Could only see Thomas's marriage 1896 to Lilian .......... in Fremantle.

.... in case it helps ......the 'WA Post Office Directories' has first 'sighting' of a 'Thomas 'H' Dunstan' in

1898 .....Thomas H Dunstan Manager F E Randell & Co ....Egan St Kalgoorlie
1899 Dunstan & Co (T H) Bakers... Boulder (Kalgoorlie area)
1900+ he's absent.

Thanks Valerie. The PO Directories is interesting.

As indications show that Lilian was in NZ from 1909 then I'm assuming the girls were raised by Thomas and new wife!! Oh if only there were census records....

Am presently scouring the sights for Thomas and all possible findings.

Paula

Paula Report 31 Jan 2011 03:37

Actually as his divorce didn't come thru until 1923 from Lilian it would seem that Thomas and Marie were not married.

Valerie

Valerie Report 31 Jan 2011 04:17

Re 'Marie' and the death of Cecil 1898 (WA) ..... had Thomas already been married....before Lilian? Was he old enough to have had another family?

Electoral rolls may help - each State Library has an 'Ask a Librarian' service ...they will check/trace his/her/their whereabouts ....... (though not too earlier years).

Valerie Report 31 Jan 2011 04:47

..... was that Thomas's death in NSW..that Chrissiex found for you?

If so ....you could ask 'Joy Murrin's Transcription Services' (on-line) to 'search' it for you ...her fee is $18 ..... it should include names/ages of all his (Aus) off-spring. .Valerie

Tony, thank you. I knew she was hiding something in her past - it is a shame my dad isn't here to realise he had 3 aunties...

Don't you love moments like these - it gives you a boost of optimism to continue.

Thankyou
