Or if you send for the marriage cert it shoud give you an idea as to her birth on her marriage cert you could then eliminate it down from there.

Have now received the death Certificate of mary A Hampson nee Dickinson .
She died on April 1915 aged 73 Years.
So according to that she was born in 1841 .I have birth cerificates from 1838/40/42/45 .On Mary's marriage certificate her father was Thomas Hampson ,unfortunately none of the birth certificates have his Name as the father .I also have the 1911 census which states that mary Ann Hampson was 70 years old .which means she was born in 1841 , cannot find a birth for her in that year.

Potty asked the occupation of the father Thomas Dickinson , he was a Loomer at the time of mary Ann's marriage .
If I take Mary Ann as being born in 1842 on that certificate there is no father's name .and yet on the 1841 census mary ann is on with father as Thomas and Mother Elizabeth .
Like you say sometimes 5 years either way,yet you would think that on a death cetificate the age might be right .On the 1901 and 1911 it states that she was born 1841 .

On my tree I have a Thomas Dickinson married to an Elizabeth and children and Mary ann , Samuel and Sarah
Looks like I will have to rethink the marriage of Thomas .When Mary Ann got married the witness for her was Alice Dickinson .
I have found a few Alice Dickinson's who could be the witness but could also be her mother.
There are two births for Mary Ann Houghton for Dec 1840 on lancashire/births .
I will send for the birth certificate of John Dickinson 1844 then I can see who the father is .
