I know nothing about Francis other than he had a son William(1828) born in Alkman, Derbyshire. I believe Frances was born in Alrewas, Staffordshire. On William's marriage cert it stated Francis was a tailor. Any help would be appreciated. |

The Francis Dicken in Staffordshire is a cabinet maker.....not a tailor, so Derbyshire one more likely to be correct? |

I am sorry........how can the Staffordshire family be correct? If you have a certificate which states Francis as a tailor....then the Derbyshire family is more likely to be the right one. |

So there appears to be two Francis Dickins born about the same time, both with a son William. The Francis born in Staffordshire is a cabinet maker with his William born in Staffordshire, and the Francis born in Derbyshire is a tailor, with his William born in Derbyshire. Do you think you may have accidently crossed over families? |

Carol, If you are sure that the person you are looking for was born in Alrewus, Staffordshire then he was not a tailor but a cabinet maker. |

Which in turn means that you have the incorrect marriage cert for William. |

I am sure William married Lucy Beck in 1859 Coventry. It does state Frances was a tailor. I wounder if I have my lines crossed as to where frances was born. |

I think they may have crossed Carol, best to start again with what you definetley know otherwise it will be a nightmare to sort out later. |

Just realised about the family from Derbyshire on the 1841 census. Elouise has found the same family in 1851 and it states that Francis was born in Staffordshire! Burton-on-Blut. |

I have tried to find them on the 1841 cencus but with no joy. Why can I not find them when you can? |

In 1841, birth places are not recorded....just Yes or No as to whether they were born in the county. It is perfectly likely that the enumerator could have assumed (wrongly) that Francis was born in Derbyshire. |
