Trying to find relatives of John William BANNISTER who died at the Battle of the Somme in Thiepval on 8th August 1916. He was in the King's Own Liverpool Regiment, was born in Burnley, signed up in Ashton Under Lyne and lived in Oldham, Lancashire. John married Jane JACKSON in 1915 and had at least one child with her. His obituary in the Oldham Chronicle stated that he left "a widow and one child who resided at 72 Brunlees Street, Oldham". There is a slight possibility that they could have had another child if Jane was expecting when her husband died. Jane went on to marry Travis DAVENPORT in 1918, so any children may have taken his surname. John Bannister's sisters' married names were Annie GEARD (she also lived at 72 Brunlees Street with her husband Alfred GEARD who I believe died in 1914) and Nancy PECK (wife of Samuel PECK of Oldham). I would be very interested to hear from anyone with the surname GEARD who has relatives in Oldham or realtives of Nancy and Samuel PECK. I have a family mystery to solve and I am hoping somebody might know something...... |
