I can find no trace of a birth certificate for Louisa Emily Criswick born on 26 Aug 1908 in Dorset (around Bournemouth/Wimborne/Poole area). The name and the date and place of birth are absolutely accurate. However I have found one for Emily Criswick Burrows on the same day - are these the same person.

I can't find anything either for that exact name.

The person wasn't adopted or anything like that? Do you have other certificates that state her full name?

I have already followed up the Louisa Winifred Criswick and her parents are different. I dont have a birth certificate stating her name but the details I gave are shown on her death certificate. Her parents were William and Mary Criswick. She never mentioned being adopted although perhaps she never knew.

Thanks but is Louisa Criswick Burrows adopted by William and Mary Criswick the same person as Emily Criswick Burrows born 26 Aug 1908- is it too much of a coincidence that it makes these two the same person.

Is this her marriage ?

Thankyou all for the work you have been doing. William Thomas Criswickand Mary shown in your details of the 1911 census fit in with what I know of her parents. Ican confirm that she married Denis Keane in 1927 as Louisa Emily Criswick. However, there is no birth certificate for Louisa Emily Criswick or Louisa Criswick Burrows in 1908. The birth certificate for Emily Criswick Burrows shows her mother as Kate Burrows but no father. There was never any mention by my mother of adoption but it looks very much like she started out at Emily Criswick Burrows and finished up as Louisa Emily Criswick by the time she married. If anyone knows how I can prove it I would appreciate any info you can provide. In the meantime, many many thanks for your help.

Any ideas how I can prove Kate Burrows born 1892 is the mother of Emily Criswick Burrows born 1908and that Louisa Criswick Burrows (aged 3 in 1911 census) is Louisa Emily Criswick who married Denis Keane. I would like to contact the Burrows family but need to be certain before Ido.

The birth certificate for Emily Burrows will give her mums name As she was given the second name of Criswick sounds like the dad was a Criswick .It was sometimes the practice to give an illigitimate child a christian name of the fathers surname as he couldnt be named as the father on the cert

Hi Shirley Her birth certificate does give her mother's name as Kate Burrows but no father's. However, how I do I prove that Kate Burrows in the 1911 census is Kate Burrowsthe mother on the birth certificate and Emily Criswick Burrows is Louisa Emily Criswick marrying Denis Keanebefore I try contacting the family.

As legal adoption didnt start til 1927 then there's no paper trail for it, However I think with all the info found including the 1911 census where she is still named a Burrows then I would be happy its the right person. Sounds as if her adopted parents just added Louisa as her first name keeping Emily as a second name.
The fact that both girls have the same birth date would seem to me to be too much of a coincidence if they were not one and the same.
Would seem she or her adopted parents dropped her surname of Burrows and used Criswick as her surname. She may not even have been aware of the name she was born with.

Unless you can find an Emily C . Burrows in 1911 or an infant death I would say it's pretty odds on that it's the same person.

I would even put money on William being the father given that she has his surname as her middle name on her birth cert..

Thanks Shirley and Mike for the info. That is the conclusion I wanted to come to and so You have helped me get rid of the doubts I had. However, I will still keep digging to try and prove the Kate Burrows in the 1911 census is the same as on the birth certificate.
