Hello Geoffrey, I am trying to find details of Joseph Couldrey b1834 or 35 in the Stroud area .I am unable to find anything before 1855 when he married Elizabeth Commander in the midlands. The 1881 cencus tells me that there was a Charles Couldrey { b1807 in Gloucestershire} living with Joseph and his family . Could this be Josephs father? Hope you can be of help. IGI has submitted record of a marriage for a Charles Couldree

Spouse: CAROLINE GARDINER

EDIT: Bisley is very close to Chalford, where both Caroline and Charles Couldrey claim to come from in census 1871 (though he says born Wiltshire in 1861 census)

Chalford and Bisley are also both very close to Stroud.

There is this IGI submitted record for the baptism of a Caroline Gardiner

Although Caroline claims to be about 3 years younger in census 1861/71 .

There are several IGI submitted records for the marriage of Timothy Gardiner and Hester Sutton:

In 1871 Joseph and Elizabeth have a daughter Eliza, the same age as granddaughter Eliza who was with Charles and Caroline in 1861.

Joseph and Elizabeth's son Walter in 1871is a lot younger than Charles's grandson Walter in 1861, but perhaps the first Walter died and his name was reused?
