Trying to fine the correct D.O.B for Mary Jane McEwan born in Glasgow From marriage certs married twice age given as 19 in 1914 to John Fenton and age 26 in 1920 to Alexander McCulloch which would make her born around 1895 Cant find a Birth record for her around that time Any suggestions please

You should be able to get her birth from Scotlandspeople. Have you found her with her parents on the 1901 census please? That may help you to find a possible district in Glasow.

Christine, can you tell me who her parents were on the marriage certificates and if they were dead or alive please? I can have a look for her on the 1901 census is that helps. Could she have been born in Ireland?

Do you have parents' names? Should be possible to find her 1901 if so and confirm the birthplace.

Her first marriage was to John Fenton married 1914 Glasgow Gives her age as 20 Parents were Francis McEwan deceased and Bridget McEwan ms Roddie Mary Janes 2nd marriage was to Alexander McCulloch 1920 also Glasgow Marriage cert now gives her age as 27 Hence the reason I reckon she was born around 1895

I don't see a Mary on the 1901 census with parents Francis and Bridget. Did she have siblings? Have you found her on the census records please? Is that how you know that she was born in Glasgow?

Christine

Christine Report 29 May 2010 19:13

Cant find her on census Believe she had Brothers Patrick and James and possibly a half sister Margaret

Yes, I have now found one of your other threads.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1222955

There are quite a few years between her brothers' births and hers. You don't think that Francis and Bridget may have been her grandparents?

So, from the other thread, you now have the exact date of birth for her brothers, Patrick and James. Can you give us their parents address from their birth entries please?

Christine

Christine Report 29 May 2010 19:23

if they were her grand parents why then would they be registered on both her marriage certs as parents.......confusing

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 29 May 2010 19:27

Christine, it wouldn't be the first time that a child raised by grandparents put their names on the marriage entry. So times this was for respectability if they were illegitmate.

Can you put the dates and addresses / places of birth for her brothers on this thread please?

Christine

Christine Report 29 May 2010 19:41

If Francis and Bridget were her Grandparents would there be anyway I could find out who her parents were?

Patrick McKEEON 18 JAN 1873 b Glaagow died 10 APR 1898 Glasgow

James McKEON 21 FEB 1874 b Glasgow died 09 JULY 1879 Glasgow aged 5

Margaret McEwan 1880 believe to be Mary Janes half sister b Glasgow

I know there is variations in spelling the surnames but have taken that into consideration

rootgatherer Report 29 May 2010 20:07

Margaret was born after Patrick and James, who are full siblings to Mary Jane but Mary Jane is a full sibling to the boys? Something rather confusing here unless of course Margaret was the result of an affair that Francis had??

Could Mary Jane and / or Margaret have had different parents to Patrick and James?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 29 May 2010 20:16

Is this the Margaret that yoy think is connected??

Clutching at straws here!!!

What occupation did Mary Jane give for Francis's occupation please??
