Trying to find Cook

Not sure if anyone can help here. I have Laura Lilian Cook b. 1914 m. 1939 (to Norman Harry Farrant). Her father is named on the marriage cert as Montague Cook (deceased) and her address is in Leicester. However, I can find no birth record for her (searched FreeBMD, Genes Reunited, familysearch.org, etc). Also no record of Montague in deaths or censuses (only one I did find made him and his wife 60 the year Laura was born, so I'm not giving much weight to that!). I know there was a big scandal in the family involving both Laura and Montague (family hearsay) before her marriage and now wonder if maybe she changed her surname and moved away from the family home (originally from London). Is there any way to find out? (I know that she wouldn't have disclosed anything like this to her sons) And does anyone know where else I might look for her birth record (assuming her name WAS Cook).
