This post is not a request for immediate assistance, since I don't think there's much anyone else could do at this point to find out about these people. I'd just like to get their info on record on the "Trying to Find Coke" board where related people might see it.

Lilian and Percival were the children of

Percy Hale Knight Coke, 1858 Neath, Glamorgan, Wales
Sarah McManus, 1868, Stockton

They are in the 1901 census in Harrogate.

Percy HK Coke, father of Lilian and Percival, was the brother of Charles Henry Coke, who was the husband of Ada Lennox Monck Hill, sister of my gr-grfather.

My quest is to find descendants of (or learn what happened to) the two surviving children of Charles and Ada, born 1881-2. If I could find descendants of their cousins, Lilian Coke and Percival Coke, I might find the answers.

Percy and Charles were the sons of Henry Simmonds Coke, a solicitor and the Portreeve of Neath. Henry's brother James Charles Coke was a copper magnate, who had business interests (and wives) in Australia and Chile. James's line is well documented and I am in contact with descendants, who have also had contact with descendants in Chile. About Henry's line, no one seems to know anything.

Henry's other children:

Eliza Frances Coke, married William Lochiel Sapte Lovett Cameron
(lived in Bombay; two surviving daughters, one married; son killed WWI)
Jessie Jane Coke, married Charles James Orr
(one son)
(I'll be making separate posts re children of the sisters)

Percival Hale Coke 1898
- published poetry in the 1920s; I have bought a couple of volumes, and it is not poetry for the ages. He does not appear to have been married at that time.

Lilian Hale Coke 1895
- no information after 1901 census

I have not scoured the untranscribed GRO index for marriages, and certainly am not asking that anyone else do so! I'll get to it ...

Their father Percy was in the Imperial Yeomanry in the Boer War, in which he was a Captain, as reported in the 1901 census; as far as I know, he survived. He is said to have been mayor of Harrogate at one time, but I have not found (or seriously looked for) confirmation of this.

Percy's brother Charles's son Henry Rossiter John Monro Coke was also in the IY, as Rossiter M. McCock. (Charles had changed his own family's surname to MacCock/McCock by the 1891 census, for unknown reasons.) I assume there was some contact between the families.

This Coke family emigrated to Wales from Scotland, where they were weavers and brewers, in the 1700s. The surname in Scotland was Cock, which became Coke after the migration. They are not related to the Coke family in England that included all the famous Cokes, and that spread to Jamaica and Canada.

Some time ago I contacted the present owners of the house in Harrogate where Percival lived in the 1920s, which is now a guest house, to ask whether they knew anything of the family, but received no reply.

If anyone knows of, or is related to, any of the Cokes in question here, I would be overjoyed to hear.
