I would be interested in hearing from anyone with the surname Chater from the Leicester and Northampton area.

Hello Lorraine

I have just discovered that one of my relations was born in Northants. I am unable to confirm that it was Farthinghoe, although it looks like it on an enumerator's page.

Edmund CHATER c1819 from Northants believed married Ann KNIGHT c1820 from Fenny compton, Warks.
Children may be:
George 1844/45
John 1846
Eliza 1846
William 1849
Shadrach 1851

William c1849 married Hannah WRIGHT c1844 from Wolvey, Warks. I believe they had two sons, William John CHATER and George Wright CHATER.

William John was grandfather to my husband.

The only prime source I have thus far is the marriage certificate of William John CHATER when he married Mabel Florence WILLIAMS.

Do any of these names help you with your research?

Unfortunately I have been tracing the CHATER family for a while before I discovered I was on the wrong track.

After receiving the certificate for William John's marriage, it confirmed his father to be WIlliam and not Edward CHATER. So I am starting again.

I have been using the usual familysearch, freebmd, findmypast and ancestry.com (UK).

Kindest regards
Gillian
