Casey007 Report 27 Mar 2011 11:49

Hi Out There,
I'm researching my Wife's side of the Family, and have come across one member who seems to 'disappear' after the 1911 Census.
Discussions with the oldest living member of her family indicates that it is possible that he emigrated to Australia although it is not known when.
His full (known) details are:- CHARLES CLIFFORD CHAPMAN. b 09/04/1895 in TIDESWELL, Derbyshire. 1911 Census shows him working as a Printer in the Family business.
I have tried searching All Trees on this site and BMD Records on several other sites but, like I say, He just seems to disappear into the ether.
Can anybody help or suggest any other methods of tracing this person?
Thanks in anticipation,
Ken Coote.

This looks to be his death.......would be worth getting the cert to see who registered it.

Edit: Too many Charles C Chapman marriages to be able to pinpoint the correct one - hopefully the death was registered by his wife or child.

If you are able to check local newspapers for an obituary it may hold clues..ie a funeral notice often gives a list of the attendees..

Many Thanks.
Mary, Your info. seems to throw the Australian theory out of the window somewhat but I certainly will obtain the Cert. if only to discount it from the list.
Mark, If ever I'm in Chelmsford I'll try and remember to call in to the local paper offices and see if I can have access to their archives.
Ken.

Hi Kenneth

Well, with exactly the same date of birth, and names, he certainly appears to be the right one.

Maybe he went to Australia at some time and came back here?

Thanks Maddie,
I would say that this is exactly the right person as all the other details re. NOK etc. are right, except His Mother's surname! but, you are not the first to make the mistake and there is a lot a 'history' behind it.(The sort that gets swept under the carpet and forgotten about!!).
It may also be the reason behind the story that He emigrated, who knows!
Ken.

Thanks to Everybody who replied to my request. Your help is greatly appreciated and I think I have enough now to finally put that 'TWIG' in the Family Tree to sleep.
Cheers. Ken Coote.
