Trying to find Buxton

Elizabeth Report 7 Feb 2004 22:12

My grandfather Jesse Buxton born 1886, went to Canada with his father Charles Buxton, born 1862, Albert Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and his mother Sarah Jane(nee Williams, born 1863 in Seagrave Street, Newcastle, and his sister Ethel. They must have gone from Staffs after March 1887, but Sarah was back with the 2 children by 1891, living with her widowed mother Elizabeth Williams (nee Lawton) in Castle St., Newcastle. Family lore says that Charles went out to work on the railways and died out there of typhoid. I don't know which port they left from, nor which one they went to, which is a problem! I do know that Charles had an aunt, Emma Buxton, married to Thomas Johnson, who left Stoke, with some of their children, between 1882 and 1887, and went to Toronto. They had more children there. Charles was an Apprentice Pawnbroker in 1881, so hadn't a lot to lose by emigrating. Anyone know any more than we do? PS Janis in Toronto found Charles's death for me - in 1891, of typhoid. Now I need to know how ever Sarah found the money to get back home! Liz
