Hi Everyone I'm having a lot of problems finding the family of my gggreat grandmother Annie Maria Burgess. I know that she married my gggreat grandfather George Martin Shufflebottom on May 5, 1868 in shelton as I have their marriage certificate however her father is not shown on the marriage cert. I know also that she was born on June 5, 1849 in Shelton, again her father is not shown but it states that Martha Burgess is her mother so I believe that there is no way I can find her father but I want to research her mothers family but have hit a dead end as I do not know anything about her. I have looked for Annie in the 1851 census with the mother listed as Martha to see if I could find a year of birth and birthplace for martha but I have found nothing of Annie or Martha in the 1851 or 1861 census its like they don't exist. I thought maybe Martha married within the two years that Annie was born and the 1851 census but I do not know where to start looking, I tried the marriage records but found only one marriage that would make sense and it has lead nowhere. I also thought maybe Martha might have died but I could not find a death record that looked plausible. What else can I do? I'm getting very frustrated they must be somewhere in the 1851 census but I cannot find them. |

I can't see them, but this came from a search of parish records with Norfolk selected as the county, unfortunatley there are no Christian names |

I assume you have tried "search trees" on the green bar at the top of the page to see if anyone has this family in their tree |

Oh, what county are we looking at? As no county was given, I googled it and the only shelton I saw was Norfolk |

Thanks everyone for the help I am so sorry not to have said the country, it is indeed stoke upon trent. I was so used to in my research just saying shelton, I am again sorry about not mentioning the country. I am so chuffed with what you have found it definitely seems plausible that Martha married Euphrates Crutchley and that Annie took the Crutchley name. It is possible that Annie was mispelled to Anna also which seems again plausible. Also not being present on the 1871 census is also good as she married in 1868 to George Martin Shufflebottom. Thanks again everyone I will be using this research to carry on my family tree everyone fits its the right area especially Hanley, Staffordshire. I am forever in your debt |

Good News everyone we have solved the mystery the Fanny in the 1851 census is indeed Annie as it states fanny is 1 year and 9 months which matches exactly with Annie's date of birth of June 5th 1849. Thanks to everyone who has helped. |

Hi everyone I have found some more stuff out, Martha's parents were Thomas and Maria Burgess. That is where Annie's middle name maria comes from, I have a suspicion that Annie's maternal grandmother Maria's maiden name might have been Hassall. Martha's father thomas died in 1841 I believe and I believe Maria might have died some time before so she was left an orphan and I believe she may have been looked after by her mothers family the Hassall's I'll have to prove it though. I need to get to Stoke-Upon-Trent. |
