Elizabeth Report 28 May 2003 06:57

To John Brown In the 1901 census there is an Elizabeth Brown age 58 living in New Sleaford. She is a widow and born in Lincs Dorington. Her son David Brown, age 24 is a fishmonger's assistant. There are 2 other sons living with her, Arthur, age 17 a hairdresser's assistant and James age 15 a grocer's errand boy. There is a William Brown born in Sleaford, who is living in Great Grimbsby age 31 as an electrician's assistant. His brother, Thomas is also living with him age 21 and a printer compositor. William is married to Elizabeth who is from Ropsley, Lincs and is aged 31. They have a son Ernest, age 4 born in Sleaford, and a daughter, Nellie, age 2, born in Ancaster, Lincs. There is also a Robert Brown, born in Sleaford, age 24 living in Rotherham, Yorks and a plasterer. There are christening records for William and Sarah Ann Brown, and also a John Brown, father William, mother Elizabeth on 30 Jun 1872 in New Sleaford. There is a christening record for William Brown on 17 jan 1838 in New Sleaford, father Henry Brown and mother Marianne. It maybe that the birth year for William was transcribed incorrectly for the 1881 census and there does seem to be a discrepancy for his wife's age between the 1901 and 1881 census. Hope this helps, I know how difficult it is to find info with surname like Brown.
