i am looking for info on my grandfather's family. his name was joseph brookes and he had a sister called ursula. his parents were called john wilfred. and mary ann brookes (nee ramshaw.) jon died in the 1st ww in 1918 and mary ann in 1919 along with their son john of influenza. my grandfather was bought up by an aunt along with his sister and joined the army at a very young age , i think maryann came from durham but am unsure please could anyone help. |

thankyou jan, you must have read my mind as have just sent for the marriage cert on tues as have limited info about this side of the family and at least it will give names of both fathers and addresses. really need to find out if there are any cousins left of grandads as would be so keen to know abit more about where he came from. have you heard of wymeswold at all ? |

i think it's where john wilfrid parents lived when he died in the 1st ww. looked up the war graves listing and found him there i think. |

Helen, you need to give all the info you have from that cert - namely fathers' names and occupations, and when John & Mary were born. |

the thomas o. brookes seems to be john wilfreds brother and he is the witness to johns marriage to maryann in14/12/1912. the other witness is ursula r. brookes but i am unsure if this is john sister-in- law or sister ? |
