Find Ancestors

i am looking for info on my grandfather's family. his name was joseph brookes and he had a sister called ursula. his parents were called john wilfred. and mary ann brookes (nee ramshaw.) jon died in the 1st ww in 1918 and mary ann in 1919 along with their son john of influenza. my grandfather was bought up by an aunt along with his sister and joined the army at a very young age , i think maryann came from durham but am unsure please could anyone help.

thankyou jan, you must have read my mind as have just sent for the marriage cert on tues as have limited info about this side of the family and at least it will give names of both fathers and addresses. really need to find out if there are any cousins left of grandads as would be so keen to know abit more about where he came from. have you heard of wymeswold at all ?

No! Whereabouts is it - or is that why you are asking! I see from googling that it's in leicestershire.
Let us know what info you get from the cert.

i think it's where john wilfrid parents lived when he died in the 1st ww. looked up the war graves listing and found him there i think.

hi jan have marriage cert and traced john wilfreds family back via 1901 census but cannot find maryann in the census or her family at all.?
john w. brookes died in ww1 and is buried at st. sever cemt in france. am now trying to find any living realitives of john's siblings called thomas.o 1886 cir beatrice 1893 cir. and margory 1898 ish. oh also mary ann died in 1919 in the influenza outbreak as did john wr brookes aged 5yrs.

Helen, you need to give all the info you have from that cert - namely fathers' names and occupations, and when John & Mary were born.

john brookes, foundry clerk was john wilfred father they married on 14 december 1912 in the registery office in west bromwich. mary ramshaw father was edward ramshaw and he was a grocer. mary was a parlour maid and john was a flagman ? he was 22 and she was 20 yrs old. on a sadder note mary died on 28th feb 1919 of influenza like i thought, i have the death cert in front of me. i cannot find mary or her family in the census at all ? the adress of the informant on her death cert is her father e. ramshaw living at 36 chapel street handsworth.

How about this for Edward maybe? Just wondering if Annie below might be Mary Ann?? Can't see an Annie Ramshaw birth in Staffs around that time.

According to that 1911 transcript, they had been married for 20 years.

the thomas o. brookes seems to be john wilfreds brother and he is the witness to johns marriage to maryann in14/12/1912. the other witness is ursula r. brookes but i am unsure if this is john sister-in- law or sister ?
