Have you tried the 'search trees' section on this site. Put surname / a date -+ and - a number / Ireland. It lists all brennans in Ireland. There are several in the right sort of area. It's worth contacting them. I don't like to preach the obvious but sometimes we don't see whats under our nose. Also another tip which I found useful, some people put a place of birth which is only a few miles from the one you may have as different cenus sometimes vary as to what the person put down at that time. When you look at a map you can see that the places are sometimes neighbouring villages. It makes more sense to look at the map.
A member on here had a relation of both of ours as born 3 miles up the road from where I had him. All the relations were the same, just a technical difference.
Have fun and hope you find him

Hi Susan
My husbands family originated in suffolk but joined the army and were posted in Eire on several occassions. Most of the children married Irish women and are still there and some came back here after joining up also.
I found it difficult finding the family after 1841 and some re-appeared in 1871 back in the uk
I have since been told that if they were in Eire during the times that I have missing then most of the irish census records were lost in a fire sometime in the last century.
So if your family were in Ireland then, then maybe their records were lost and you may never find out. If you can find a long lost cousin still living in Ireland then you may find out.
Hope that helps

Hello everyone, i set out on a mission 20 mnths ago to gather info regarding my fathers father George Brennan 1884. I was lead to belive he was born in Ireland and i dearly wanted to try and find out when he came to England and who with. I found him recently on the 1911 census along with his parents and siblings only to find that he was actually born in Colchester!! Grrr! His mother is Jane Hancock 1854, Menheniot, Cornwall, Liskeard. His father, John Brennan 1849,Athey, Co Kildare Ireland. I have managed to trace John back to the 1871 census, he was a private age 22 living at an army camp in Colchester. I also have John and Janes marriage cert now ...12 jan 1875 Stoke Damerel Devon. It reveals his fathers name as James Brennan (Labourer) I spent the morning seaching a 10 yr span of 1861 census records in the hope of finding a James Brennan with a son John aged 12! Any information or suggestions as to where i go from here, would be greatly appreciated...thankyou Sue.
