Find Ancestors

I have found Elijah Beard, born in West Bergholt in 1845. In 1871 he is living with his wife, Tamar, she was born in Woodham Ferrers, and they are living in Rettendon.

In 1881 they are in Ramsden Bellhouse with three children, Arthur, 1872, Anne, 1875, and Emily.1877.

I have not found a marriage for them.

In 1891 Tamar is living with her husband GEORGE, who was born in West Bergholt in 1845, and they are living in the Maldon area, with three children, Ellen, 1882, Clara, 1884, and Albert 1888.

In 1901 they are in Southminster.


I have not found a marriage for them.

I first thought that Elijah had died and Tamar married his brother George and had another family, but the only death for an Elijah Beard I can find is 1930.

Thoughts please.

I think the name George entered on the 1891, is just an error made by the enumerator!!

"James" is not with the family in 1871. I cant find him in any other census. I cant find a birth, death or marriage for him which leads me to believe that he is Tamar!!
