Hannibal Bartley landed at Post Adelaide in April 1849 with his wife Mary Anne. I am trying to find his children's details. I have found one only.That is William Bartley born 1850 at Broken Hill.
Any help would be welcome.

Mary Ann Died 3rd June 1889 aged 66. Hannibal died 20th Feb 1891 aged 69. They lived in Kersbrook,NSW and buried together in Kersbrook Cemetery. Still unable to find siblings and children.

Found them in Trove. An aussia newspaper. Just found Herbert Baldock Bartley,my Nephews Father in the Broken Hill cemetery records. Died 1981 aged 67.

Regarding Herbert Baldock Bartley born 01.09.1914

Birth records accessible by the general public for the state of NSW are only seachable up to 1910 ( assuming he was born in this state...NSW )

You appear to have a day,month and year ( 01.09.1914 )

Purchasing his Marriage cert and or death cert would perhaps give you more information about his parentage.


Its quite possible also,that he was born out of wedlock........before his parents marriage in 1916.
1914 WW1 ( Great War ) and Aussie history tells us many children born before there parents marriage, as their partners/spouses were off to the war.

You already have his marriage details on your other thread....so that would be my next move ( Purchase Marriage or death cert )

BARTLEY.— On the 9th February, at his residence, Kersbrook, Hannibal Bartley, of paralysis, aged 69 years. His end was peace. A colonist of 42 years.

Our correspondent at Kersbrook writes : — 'In the death of Mr. Hannibal Bartley this district has lost one of its oldest residents. Deceased was very highly respected. For 35 years ho had been one of the most active members of the local Wesleyan Church. The service at the funeral, which was largely attended, was conducted by the Rev. George Hall, Mr. Vercoe assisting. There are two sons surviving— Mr. George Bartley, of Minlaton, and Mr. William Bartley, of Kersbrook.'

BARTLEY.-On the 8th June, at Northfield, William, the dearly loved husband of Emily Bartley, of Kersbrook, aged 68 years. At rest.

Mr. William Bartley, who died at Kersbrook, was a son of Mr. Hannibal Bartley, who arrived in South Australia in 1849, and took up his residence at Kersbrook in 1857, when Mr. William Bartley was seven years of age. The latter filled every office in the Methodist Church, as lay preacher, class leader, steward, and Sunday-school superintendent. He was a prominent Rechabite, and was secretary and treasurer of the Kersbrook Lodge for 25 years. He was a member of the Gumeracha School Board of Advice for 20 years, and afterwards member of Kersbrook School Committee, as well as of the Institute and Literary Society. He was president of the Liberal Union for six years. Mr. Bartley left a widow (daughter of Mr. William Wright, of Inglewood), and one brother, Mr. George Bartley, of Glenelg.

To-day, before Mr. F. Norton, J.P., George Andrew Bartley, of Minlaton, was charged with being a pauper lunatic. Dr. Allwork was called, and after examination he gave a certificate of lunacy. Bartley was sent to the Asylum.

There are several Bartleys with birthplace as Broken Hill NSW.
