The origin of the name Balfour is Scottish and the Coat of Arms contains a silver otter's head on a black chevron on a silver shield. The Crest is an arm holding a baton. The family motto is Forward. Spelling variations include: Balfour, Balfoure, Balfower, Balfowir, Balford, Balforde and many more. First found in in Fifeshire, where they had been seated from ancient times.
