I am trying to find records of the family of Auguste LaPierre (or other spelling/combinations). Auguste stated on his naturalization papers in Victoria, Australia, in 1897 that he arrived on the 'Stella' in 1851. He also stated he was born in Bolougne, France, in 1948, so this must mean that he travelled out at the age of 3 with adults. I can find no record of the 'Stella' for that year, nor can I find any arrivals of LaPeyre, Lapierre to Victoria. I would be very grateful if anyone could help.

Thank you
Wendy

Hi Wendy

This is an interesting one! I notice he says he sailed from Mauritius, though he was born in France. His 1875 marriage to Eliza Jane CHEWMOW (nee EDWARDS) states he was born in Bordeaux. Do you have the certificate (reg 1589)?

Do you have her previous 3 children with Thomas CHEW MOW?

The only early imigration I can see is in 1853 of C & J JR LAPIERRE aboard Emma Colvin from a foreign port, aged 25 & 28 respectively. There are several others but all after 1890.

Did you notice the LAPEYRE marriage of Leontine in 1872, b. Mauritius? Might be a link since Auguste had a son named Leon...

Was his mother Marie?

Hello Cherilyn,
First, please, please, please excuse me for not replying earlier, but I have only just found this message when I put in a google search for Thomas Chewmow.

I wish I had seen it earlier, as I have only yesterday stumbled upon Leontine. It would have been good to have found this out when you first wrote.

I have been in contact with another lady who has also just found out about Leontine. Apparently she is August's sister or so we think. The family story is that The family did travel from Mauritius, so will have to delve further.

Thank you.
Wendy
