Evelyn Report 8 Sep 2009 09:23

I have found photos of two young men named Kenneth and Maxwell Annison.Kenneth born 1927 and Maxwell in 1928.
These photos once belonged to my grandfather who was Albert Thomas Stone Miller Annison. Albert was born in Liverpool, Lancashire and came to live in Australia. I believe the two young men must have been related but do not know if they were here visiting or if the photos were sent from overseas.
I can find no Kenneth or Maxwell born around the time mentioned and am desperate to find who they were and how they connect. Please can any one help me to find answers

Sorting out 1911 is proving tricky - you may need to invest in some credits to establish birthplaces and relationships of the various people listed.
I've marked *** the ones which seem to be Daniel's immediate family - but it's only guesswork!

Hi Evelyn

I wonder if this is Maxwell, known by his 2nd name?

ANNISON ALLEN MAXWELL : Service Number - NX503255 : Date of birth - 28 Mar 1928 : Place of birth - MELBOURNE VIC : Place of enlistment - LIVERPOOL NSW : Next of Kin - KENNIFF JOHN

I don't know who John Kenniff is though.

Or this one (I can't believe this death is so recent!) from www.ryersonindex.org, the age also fits.

ANNISON Kenneth Francis Death notice 01JUL2009 Death 81 late of Dora Creek NSW

There was a death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald. You can read it here: http://notices.smh.com.au/tribute/notice.aspx?surname=annison

The funeral director was Mannings Funerals, (www.mannings.com.au); if you contact them they may be willing to pass on your details to his family, then it is up to them if they want to get in touch.

I hope these two are the right ones. Do keep us posted!

Hi again

Looking at marriages in Victoria, the likely parents seem to be Edward Jas & Constance Eileen nee ROBINSON, who married there in 1926; or William Robert & Mary Dorothy nee SMEE who married in Victoria but later lived in NSW.

Both were sons of James & Mary Ann nee IRVING (who married in Wagga in 1890). Jas died in Victoria in 1938 aged 77, parents as Isaac and Sarah nee GUY (b. 1861 Wagga NSW). Isaac died in Wagga in 1881 aged 59 (b. c1822); Sarah died in 1883. Isaac (35) and Sarah (25) arrived in NSW in 1857 with children George (3) & Susan (2). So very early in Oz...

Do these names ring a bell?

If Edward & Constance were their parents, they had a brother named Wallace Edward who died in 1976 aged 44 in Macedon, Vic. Constance died in Kyneton Vic in 1979 aged 88.

Any good?

My thanks to you, Freewheel and Cherilyn
As you can see I have another posting on the subject of the Annison boys, Looks like it could be this Allen Maxwell Annison and his next of kin, his brother Kenneth John. I have ordered his Army Record, hoping to glean a little more info on him and am patiently waiting.
So sorry not to have replyed before this, I was having trouble working out how to do it but, thanks to Cynthia,I now have the hang of it, I hope.
Good researching by you two, you have my family exactly. Albert was my grandfather, Daniel his brother and Eli their father [my great grandfather]
The photos were found in my grandfathers album so they just must be connected. I can find no connection to the Annisons of Wagga. I need to find the parents of the two boys, then I may get somewhere.
I have so much trouble with the Victorian BDM but am trying to obtain a birth certificate, any other ideas would be very welcome,
so many thanks,Evelyn

Well,I am back again. I forgot to say to Freewheel that nearly all he found was correct. you asked when did Albert come to Australia, well he jumped ship in 1911. He married my grandmother then he joined the Australian army undder the assumed name of Jack Saunders. There was one entry that was not familiar, I think it was Alfred.
Well now I have the Army record of Allen Maxwell Annison. From this I can confirm he was born in Melbourne, Australia, 28 March 1928.
John Kenniff was his guardian and his address was
" Avoca Station" Maules Creek, Boggabri, New South Wales Australia.
I was silly enough to think John Kenniff was a mis spelling for the other boy, Kenneth Annison who I thought must be John Kenneth Annison. Silly me.
Seems I am unable to apply for a birth certificate, so how can I find who were Allan Maxwell's parents and why did he have a guardian ??

Hi Evelyn

Did you try following the lead for Kenneth from his death notice or the funeral director?

There was a death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald. You can read it here: http://notices.smh.com.au/tribute/notice.aspx?surname=annison

There are not many Annison's in the White Pages Residential in NSW.

www.whitepages.com.au/wp

Just to add - Kenneth ANNISON died in Dora Creek NSW, which is in the Newcastle area. William Robert ANNISON, who I thought may be his father, died in Newcastle area in 1944 (reg 18845). Could be a coincidence but may be worth using a transcription agent to get his children's names 'just in case'.

Aha! This must be the death of a son of 'your' John, from the Ryerson Index, b. c1919.

KENNIFF John Bernard Death notice 02AUG1985 Funeral, late of 'Avoco' Maules Creek - North Western Courier (Narrabri) 01AUG1985

KENNIFF John Bernard Death notice 31JUL1985 Death [aged ] 66, late of Avoca, formerly of Maules Creek and Boggabri - Sydney Morning Herald 02AUG1985

Of the same place there was a Kevin Keiren KENNIFF, who died 21 July 1984 aged 61. He had an obituary in the North Western Courier on 30 Oct 1984. It may tell you something of his family.

Kenniff John James 29 Jan 1952 71y h/Ellen Bedelia; father

Kenniff Ellen Bedelia 10 Oct 1980 w/John James; mother

John James KENNIFF was born in 1881 Tamworth NSW, son of John & Margaret (nee LEARY).

Ellen B (nee GALLAGHER) was born in 1893 Inverell NSW, d/o Hugh & Hannorah/Honorah (nee GLEESON), married John in Inverell NSW in 1917.

So can't see any family connection to the Annisons (thought John or Ellen may be an uncle/aunt or cousin).

Isacc Annison and Sarah Guy are who I call the Wagga Wagga Annisons. I do not believe I connect with them but I could be wrong. So I am no longer following leads that relate to them. The Kenneth Annison whos death notice we have found is that family.
