Do you have the children's birth certificates to see what they say about Ada's name and the fathers?

Have you looked for marriages for Ada at FreeBMD?

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Looking for the marriage of an Ada Webster to a Beaumont, there is this possible:

Marriages Jun 1895
Barry Elizabeth Edmonton 3a 636
> Beaumont William Ernest Edmonton 3a 636
Madge George William Edmonton 3a 636
> Webster Ada Henrietta Edmonton 3a 636

That was in the same district as the birth of Maud, so it seems like a good possibility.

There is no marriage of an Ada Webster or Beaumont to a Mann. But if she had been married to and estranged from a Mr. Beaumont, she may well have used another surname later in life.

In 1911, these Beaumonts were living with a Mann:

BEAUMONT ADA HENRIETTA 1876 35 Edmonton Middlesex
BEAUMONT MAUD MARIAN 1900 11 Edmonton Middlesex

I searched for Beaumont living with Mann.

Searching for Mann living with Beaumont in Edmonton:

MANN EDWARD DAVID 1902 9 Edmonton Middlesex

If Ada was living with someone else in 1911, you would have to buy credits to view the record to see who it was. Using guesswork to exploit the free search facility only gets us that far. ;)

The 1901 census doesn't help; Ada and Maud were visiting in Tottenham:

John Long 11
Bertie Long 9
George Long 6
Willie Long 3
Ada Beaumont 26 - married
Maud Beaumont 1

Births Sep 1869
Beaumont William Ernest Edmonton 3a 175

The only William E born in that vicinity in that timeframe.

1911 - born Tottenham:

BEAUMONT WILLIAM E M 1869 42 West Ham Essex

Living with

BEAUMONT ANNIE F 1863 48 West Ham Essex
BEAUMONT THOMAS C M 1868 43 West Ham Essex

But no, he's this one in 1901:

William Beaumont 31
Annie Beaumont 37
Beatrice Beaumont 13
William Beaumont 3
Frederick Beaumont 2 8 months

Except ... they're not there in 1891:

Name: William E Beaumont
Age: 21
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1870
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Henry
Mother's Name: Emma R
Where born: Tottenham, Middlesex, England

Was it William who left Ada and hooked up with Annie?

Just trying to get a handle on the hubby to see whether/when he died, leaving Ada free to marry and acquire a different surname.

Births Dec 1874

Hi Eavie Beavie ,I have posted all info ...Re:-- Ada Henrietta Webster etc on site as requested. I do hope you will be able to use this. Just in case ....THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH ...

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:00

Hi Roy - got your PM, and you're very welcome!

And now with this additional info from the birth certificate, we can confirm that this William Beaumont in 1901:

William Beaumont 31
Annie Beaumont 37
Beatrice Beaumont 13
William Beaumont 3
Frederick Beaumont 2 8 months

was indeed the William Beaumont in question. His occupation was "Cattle Drover". Obviously at least the oldest child in the household (Beatrice) was not William's.

So William Beaumont and Ada Webster Beaumont were estranged by 1901.

Was Maud Marian Beaumont a child of William Beaumont?

Well, this looks like the young William Beaumont, aged 3, in the 1901 household:

Births Dec 1897
Beaumont William Ernest Edmonton 3a 435

So if his mother was not Ada then it looks like she and William Sr. were estranged by 1897, after marrying in 1895. And one might suspect that William was not really Maud Marian's father.

One tip for posting here -- making lists makes things easy to read. Instead of "..." to separate items, hit the "Enter" key to make a new line (and hit it twice to make white space), thus:

Maud Marian
Mother Ada Henrietta Beaumont....Formerly Webster
Father..William Ernest Beaumont..Cattle Dealer
Mother & daughter Living at No 9 Shakespeare rd Edmonton.
Maud dob 03/04/1900

Edward David Mann
Father David Mann
Mother .....Ada Henrietta Mann..Formerly Webster
Living at 48 Borwick Ave ...Walthamstow
Edwards ..dob...24/08/1902.

Just easier to follow that way!

Now, do you know about father David Mann or are you looking for him too? Does the birth cert not say his occupation?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:12

Looking for Ada before marriage, this looks like her in 1881:

Name: Ada Henta. Webster
Age: 5
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: George
Mother's Name: Christiana J.
Where born: Islington

Civil Parish: St Mary Islington
County/Island: London
Street address: 13 Oxford Road

George Webster 38
Christiana J. Webster 36
Christiana J. Webster 14
Florence M. Webster 10
Edith A. Webster 8
Ada Henta. Webster 5
Benjamin C. Webster 4

You should probably get her birth and marriage certificates (info posted above) to verify her parents' names.

She had quite a few siblings, so that might give you some leads to track down family today.

Ah. I see from searching trees that you already have that info.

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 18:24

The 1911 has this David Mann:

MANN DAVID M 1871 40 Lexden Essex

but he is living with Mabel Jane (Woodward) whom he married in 1898.

Edward David Mann was born in 1902 in Walthamstow / West Ham.

In 1901 there is this David Mann in Walthamstow:

Name: David Mann
Age: 37
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Relation: Brother
Gender: Male
Where born: Mildenhall, Suffolk, England
Occupation: Navvy

Civil Parish: Walthamstow
Registration district: West Ham

William Mann 47
Mary E Mann 46
Henry E Mann 27
Emma E Mann 14
Robert Mann 10
Mabel E Mann 6
David Mann 37

This could be him in 1911:

MANN DAVID 1860 51 Edmonton Middlesex
MANN EMMA 1866 45 Edmonton Middlesex

No, aha. Using born-Suffolk to search the 1911, this will likely be him:

*INSTITUTION* MANN DAVID 1864 47 Lambeth London

You would need to view the record to see what the institution was.

As I understand it, the one bit of info that is being withheld from access for the 1911 census at present is the "disability" data. So the reason why he was in the institution might not be possible to determine, depending on what kind of institution it was.

Given his place of birth, there's a good chance this is his death:

Name: David Mann
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Year of Registration: 1915
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at Death: 51
District: Mildenhall
County: Suffolk
Volume: 4a
Page: 1423

Only one birth matches that info:

Births Dec 1863
MANN David Mildenhall 4a 461

In 1911, David Mann's brother and family, with whom David was living in Walthamstow in 1901:

William Mann 47
Mary E Mann 46
Henry E Mann 27
Emma E Mann 14
Robert Mann 10
Mabel E Mann 6
David Mann 37

are in Mildenhall:

MANN WILLIAM 1854 57 Mildenhall Suffolk
MANN ELIZABETH 1856 55 Mildenhall Suffolk
MANN MABEL 1895 16 Mildenhall Suffolk

... and once again, I see that you have all this in your tree.
