I wonder if your father in law would consider doing a DNA test with a company like Ancestry ( it has the biggest number of users) in the hope that someone else has gone down that line. You can be the ‘manager’ of his test.

Assuming the 2018 death of Veronica Harris is the correct one, I'm sorry we couldn't find a happier result for your father-in-law.

Hi all,
Thank you for the help. Without going into too many details the family history is very complicated. Some were placed into care, some taken in by close friends and eventually split up and lost touch. The true tale was s quite haunting and sad. But Thankyou for your help

Shaun's FIL appears to be the son born in 1951.

I think you are all correct. I would say that the 2018 death for Veronica M. Harris seems likely to be the right person.

Yes, the marriage to Harris is the one I was thinking of and Veronica’s birth was registered inthe 1st quarter which would match with the January birth.

Although the death notice posted above gives her name as Miss. . . , she was on the Kidderminster ER in 2010 as Mrs. . .

and earlier as Ms . . .

The husband of that marriage was living in Bristol 2002-4, and one of his sons was listed with him in 2003.

Unfortunately, their names are too common to trace them after that, even if they stayed on the public ER.

There were three children of the marriage - or possibly four if one was before the marriage.

If so, I wonder if this death is related ???

HARRIS, VERONICA MARIE 1955
GRO Reference: DOR Q2/2018 in WORCESTERSHIRE (527-1B) Entry Number 517346673

Divorced ??

Miss Veronica Marie Harris

Gender: Female
Age: 62
Birth Date: 30 Jan 1955

That DOB would fit with Veronica Nickels's birth reg in 1st quarter of 1955.

Shaun, do you know her full DOB?

Could she have changed the spelling to Nichols. There is a possible marriage in Bath, 1974

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Feb 2023 15:58

At least three of the brothers can be seen to have retained the surname Nickels - as did their mother

If there were adoptions in the family then Shaun’s FIL could register his details with the gov. Adoption service. Then if any of the children are looking for others his details would be passed on.

It is easy to find out the name of Shaun's father-in-law.....and it isn't Nickels or Fowler

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2023 12:02

The son born in 1953 appears to have married in Bristol in 1974., and then married again in Cheltenham in 1985.

The man who married in 1985 was living in Gloucestershire until at least 2011, with his wife (listed until 2003) , and daughter (??) until at least 2008 (born 1986).

The wife died in 2004 in Gloucestershire.
The property was sold in 2011.

ADDED:

His death:

NICKELS, STEPHEN WILLIAM 1953
GRO Reference: DOR Q2/2020 in GLOUCESTERSHIRE (488-1K) Entry Number 520629060

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Feb 2023 11:53

One of the Nickels sons probably married twice and is on the ER to 2011

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Feb 2023 11:50

You are obviously in touch with at least one of Veronica's siblings, as he is in your GR tree, and you need his permission to include him, although, having said that - perhaps not - as you've included Veronica and you can't possibly have obtained her permission

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2023 11:45

The son born in 1951 may have married in Bristol in 2005, but I don't see him on ERs.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 13 Feb 2023 11:45

Is it possible that all of the Nickels siblings were adopted and had their names changed? In which case Shaun's father-in-law could have any surname.

I'm at a loss trying to understand how she relates to your father-in-law. :-0 :-0 :-0

Was she adopted into his family?
