I too was unaware Wendy was ill. Remember a few years back how she encouraged me to travel to a London meet, such a lovely lady who will be missed by many. RIP Wendy.

Always sad when a member passes away.
Would someone please tell me what Wends screen name was as I would know her by that name.

This has come in from R so I will post it here for those of you who wish to attend. As R is requesting numbers where possible, if you would like to attend and can´t get in touch I will pass the numbers on to him if you can let me know.

''Hi all

Thanks to all of you for your messages, e mails, cards and letters. I just wish Wen was here to see them.

Wen's funeral will be held at All Saints Church, The Drive, Hove BN3 3QE on Tuesday July 12th at 12 noon, and , of course, you are very welcome to attend if you are able to. After the service, you would also be very welcome at The Hove Club at 28, Fourth Avenue, Hove, BN3 2PJ. The Hove Club is a short walk , no more than 10 minutes from the Church, so it's possible to park in one spot for both locations.

I would appreciate it if you could forward these details to anyone you think would want to know just in case the message hasn't got through to them - it doesn't matter if they get them from both me and you.

If you are able to attend the funeral (or even if you are not) and would like to come to the Hove Club, I would appreciate it if you could let me know, and again let me know if you know of anyone else who may want to join us so that I can give the Club an idea of numbers.

Wen told me that she did not want her friends to wear sombre dress. She will be dressed in pink and blue - she was a party girl, after all!

Island

Island Report 23 Jun 2016 10:57

I walked into Wetherspoons in March 2011 to meet a crowd of strangers. After battling through the footie fans - I'd gone in the wrong end - I found little groups of people at seperate tables. This wasn't going to be easy so I summoned my courage as best I could and went to each table 'umm are you from GR?'.
Then I spotted a lady with a huge smile and bright eyes who looked so keen to meet each and everyone there. It was, of course, our Wend.
I'm sure many will agree that Wend was one of those people who just lit up the room.

I spent a good few hours in my garden yesterday, putting in more veg and tending the flower beds. Knowing how much Wend loved her garden and veg plot I naturally found myself thinking of her and wondered whether I should name the standout flowers - massive beautiful pink peonies - after her.
I have to say though, Wend sent me some of her favourite 'Wisley Magic' runner bean seeds a couple of years ago "I've got forty plants, I love them" she added. So, step aside peonies, kind, generous, talented Wend lives on in my veg beds.

Rest easy old gal ;-) you were taken from us way too soon. <3

As with Island ,I first met Wend at the London meets. What a great time we had.I ended up having to push Wend out of the train at the right station so her daughter could pick her up and take her home. She always called me her Guardian Angel after that. At the Sheffield meets it was the same, walking her back to the hotel every night, but we had such a good time and laughed all the days we were there.
So sad that she couldnt join us in London this year, she was greatly missed. But we raised many a glass to her.
Wend was a one off. A beautiful lady and so full of life. I will really miss her,and her great sense of fun.
Stray,having a small tipple !!!!!!!
Shame on you, hope you had more than one . :-D
Dont know how many of you are going to the funeral, but I shall be there to say goodbye to a lovely lady.

I have my flights booked so I shall be attending on the 12th. Wend always wanted a mini meet in Hove. I first met Wend in Spain as she used to holiday not far from where we lived, so each time they came over we would go out for the day as a foursome our husbands looking on indulgently as us ladies giggled the day away. Shopping with her was a nightmare as one time after trying something on she thought she had lost one of her "fillets" so we giggled back to the shop only to find it had slipped :-D. Wend was there for me when I was clearing house on the Isle of Wight, we giggled through those days also. Then we giggled at the meets with Wend traveling to Sheffield to meet up with me.

The journey to Hove from Spain is one journey I didn´t want to make and the giggles will be missing, but it´s a journey that I shall make to honour a beautiful, funny, kindhearted friend. <3
