There's a tea garden in the Doone Valley where they make their own scones. They are huge (the scones - not the people who make them ;-) ). They're really nice too. :-)

That's why we men have beards so we can savour the scone and cream for some time after! :-D

ME TOO !!!!put the jam on first then you can dollop the cream and mould it round to cover and sink your mouth into . PLUS more cream can be added when it oozes off side . LOVELY

Reminds me of cornish holidays in the 60,and 70,s when we spent 8 hours on a motorbike and sidecar getting to Cornwall for 2 weeks holiday

I am a Devon Girl ...But have to have Jam first and then a girt big dollop of good old clotted cream on top.I do remember as a child it was butter first ,then jam and cream.
I just give the butter a miss these days :-D.

Sharron

Sharron Report 2 May 2015 14:38

If it was warmed I would have to leave it until it cooled down.

I don't like stuff warmed up.

Dermot

Dermot Report 2 May 2015 14:03

When you are starving with the hunger, you'd eat nicely warmed scones any which way.

Surviving & homeless residents of Natal wouldn't mind one way or the other.

Cut in half treat both haves the same. Butter first, then jam, then cream topped with a fresh strawberry :-D :-D :-D :-D

Sharron

Sharron Report 2 May 2015 13:26

I would rather just have a bit of butter. The scone is the best bit.

Graham, as someone who comes from Somerset you should know it is cream first then the jam, the same as Devon.

Cornwall is the other way round.

I put cream on first, in lieu of butter - you wouldn't put the butter on top of the jam, would you? HAS to be strawberry jam, I'm afraid :)

Devon cream tea - a treat to die for!

‘Do it for Devon’. No need to cross the Tamar to that other place.

I've lived in both Cornwall and Devon - still put the jam on first :-D

Having said that, my dad was Cornish, so maybe it's in the genes :-D
