There are 3 possible deaths in Scotland for John

1774 in Edinburgh
1806 and 1835 in Canongate, Edinburgh

The mcdwells listed above + william john mcdowell b 1766 ireland m sarah barber is what another relative found on ancestry I thought alexandra was a male ??

so I dont know if they are correct or not

Ive got back to my 3rd grt grandparents william b 1792 from devon m mary ann gerry

You say at the start that John McDowell born 1734 died in Devon

There is nothing to support that on FMP

but as I said I have all my mcdowells in devon but not any before 1792

There are so many williams in this family

There's no birth in Scotland in 1610 for an Alexander McDowell (or other spelling of surname) .

Perhaps you mean 1670?
This one has the same parents as the William and Patrick births posted on 26th July by Malyon:

These are the only vaguely possible deaths showing on ScotlandsPeople, assuming he died in Edinburgh.

If you buy credits you can view the image of the original OPR -- not likely to give any info to prove if it's the same person or not.
