2nd and 3rd mar/ Annie Lamborne, was in Wharfedale were he died.
We do not know if he was born London or not, but he alway;s spoke with a London accent, that never changed even t hough he spent the years after he moved to Yorkshire, but that does not mean he was born a Londoner, there is nothing like
children for picking up accents.
I thought that may be the case, with both Hackford Rd School and Stockwell as I have been looking for them.
I have one address that he lived at but I am not sure when - sometime between
1937 - 1940 35 Grandvel Road, and we know they lived above a fish and chip shop, also in that time period in Tooting ? but that address we dont know.
Thank you for all your reply's I do appreciate them, my husband would so love to know who his family were, and he is now well into his 70s and not in good health
so thank you all.

The school admission says that previously he was at Hackford R* - have you looked for those records?

Added:
This is of no help, but of general interest, and I like the definitions of poverty on the Poverty map:

Hackford Road school -file missing or unfit for consultation (as is Stockwell)?

OK so guessing 1948 marriage was in Rotherham and he has a middle initial of G

1952 marriage was in Oldham

Is wife 2/3 still alive?

What makes you think he was actually born in London?

George Taylor died 1970 Wharfedale.
George Taylor married Mary Spurr 1937 stating he was 28yrs.
In 1938 when my husband was born, Mary found out he was 40yrs when they
married.
Wife No 2 and 3 were the same lady, he stated he was 43yrs 1948 then in
1952 he again married her and he stated he was 49yrs.
As far as we know the 1937 was his first 1st marriage, but we would not be suprised if this was not so, but we have no proof one way or anoughther.
When George Taylor died in 1970, we were asked by his wife to do all the arangments, she knew no more than we did.

You said that he was 40 when he married your husband's mother (the 1937 marriage presumably).
But this was his first marriage.
So why was it your family who registered his death, not his third wife?

Were all 3 wives in contact, did they have any further information about him?

Thank-you

Does your husband not know the names of his godparents R C and M E West?

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 18 Apr 2014 06:45

You "know" he was married three times so were numbers two and three after he married Mary Spurr?

What status did he give on the 1937 marriage?

What age on the marriage?

That Wharfdale death - is it the correct one? If so, there's an eight year discrepancy

Yes my husbands mother found out he was just George by birth ( I dont know how )
and that he was 40yrs when he married her, I wish we had asked more now but
it happens; and its not till you realy need to find something, that its usualy too late
when you cant get the answers ....... I wish I had asked ... .
How do I know this is George Taylor on the school records, because it matches
what my husbands mother told us the birth date was right and the fathers name was right.
Also its the only time we have found the right birth date, all others have been march September july etc, we have never found any other, and he did say he went to St Micheals school, and he lived Lambeth.

How does she know that he was not George James, but just George?

Did he say that he had added a middle name since he was named by his parents?

This death?
George James Taylor
Birth Date: 21 Nov 1904
Date of Registration: Mar 1970
Age at Death: 65
Registration district: Wharfedale
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding

Added:
You said that his birth date was guessed at, which would explain the discrepancy in birth years?

Copied over from previous page:
'Unfortunatly as we didnt know at the time anything about his details we were told to guess, so the death certificate is no help at all, as its wrong.'

George Taylor died 10 March 1970 Wharfdale.
Yes he was 40yrs when he first married, thats IF she was his first wife I have found no proof of that, but 40yrs it could be.
Yes he married Mary Spurr and the witnesses were R C West and his wife M E West.
They were also my husbands god parents, but they never signed there first names.
He called himself George James at one time, but his wife found out it wasnt his name, he was just George.

What was wrong? Where did he die? Who did he marry?
