Hi Mel,

I think Ann has something here.

You say your Aunty Emm is on the 1911 - what is her year of birth please?

It looks like the first Emma is one of the children you are looking for who died.

Your Emma is 12 on 1901 census suggesting a birth date of c 1889 which would fit with the second christening.

It was VERY usual at the time to name a child after a dead sibling, particularly if they had been given a traditional 'family' christian name which they wanted to carry through!

Dea x

P.S. - Yes! - I have found her again on 1911 with the family. Birth year c 1888!

She is certainly the second christening of an Emma to this family.

Hi Mel

this Emma I found is the older than your grandfather bvorn 1888 dont understand what you are saying. Do you think this one is not the same as on the 1901 census?

there was a emma born 1883 but she died in 1883 child of James and Eliza

so they could have named a second child Emma after the first one

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2010 10:32

My great grandfather was James Beech 1863 Bethnal Green. He married Eliza Goff in 1883.

On the 1911 census it says they had 10 children 7 of which were living. Six of which were with them on the 1911. James junior was not there or William 1890.

I need to know the baptism of George James Beech with Parents Elizabeth Mary and James Beech as I don't have the sub to look this up.

James 1863 father and mother were George Beech and Caroline Thompson. James and Eliza had a dau Caroline but no living George that I have found. The first child from this union that I know of was James Beech 1885.

Other children of this couple are

James 1885 Bethnal Green London Middx

Eliza 1886 Hackney Middx

Emma 1883 Hackney Middx

William 1890 Hackney Middx

Caroline 1892 Hackney Middx

Joseph Henry 1894 Hackney Middx

Margaret 1896 Hackney Middx

Richard (my grandfather) 1897 Hackney Middx

I can see some of the baptisms on Ancestry but can't look at them as I don't have the sub.

So I have 8 out of ten children born to this couple.

I do realize that if a child was born dead there was no birth cert. only if it drew breath.

James Beech was either a Tin Plate Worker or a Lamp Maker for the Railway.

Thanking all you helpers that give your precious time to others.

Mel
