This rhyme is apparently referring to women who marry men whose surname starts with the same letter as their maiden names, i.e Miss Smith marrying Mr Stone (and obviously vice versa). It is supposed to be a bad omen for the marriage. How many people on here have had this happen and did the marriage work?

Hi ya PP.Just thought I'd reply to this before going to bed.My maiden name is DAVISON and I married a DAVIDSON. I got rid of the D 9 years ago and I am not going to say what the D stands for.Have gone back to my maiden name and detest it when I am refered to as Mrs Davidson. Me Myself.MS DAVISON. :~)

Vonny as I never made anything legal, I have stayed with my maiden surname and it too begins with a W, so I know where you are coming from being at the end of the queue all the time. Both my brothers (Ws) married women whose maiden names started with that letter, and I have to say I could have had better sisters in law.

Missed this as I was away last week. I've always been G.B. so the saying is not true for me as we've been happily married for 34 years. Gwyn

I married a surname with same initial as maiden name, and been married for 40 years. My eldest son married a girl with same initial surname, and that didn't last, so looks like the theory isn't foolproof!! Val
