My Dad who is on warfrin had water work trouble. I took him some cranberry juice into hospital and was told he would have to have it every day now! Later when I went with him to the warfrin clinic, I mentioned it there, and they said it didn't make any difference.

Hi Caz and everyone....I knew I'd seen this thread at some time and didn't take much notice of it then.....but I now have a bout of cystitis which is sooooooooooooooo painful and I have read this from the beginning.

Have started to drink loads of water and intend to make an appointment at the doctors tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for invaluable advice.

I have to add, I have had about all the anti biotics that are prescribed for cystitis and although they work at the time the infection just keeps coming back. I started taking the cider vinegar out of sheer desperation. My advice is if you find something that helps keep taking it as long as it does not interfere with other medication. I know plenty of people who find anti-biotics work, but I feel this may not be the chronic kind of cystitis.

I am taking 4 cranberry capsules every day and I think they help altho they didn't with the pain of the possible kidney stone the other week. I will be seeing the Urologist in early August so will try and remember to ask about cranberry then.
The trouble with the cranberry drinks most people buy is that they are mostly water so not very strong and very expensive way to take cranberry.
I get my capsules when H and B have a sale on.

Bob, I had the antibiotics earlier this year but then the doc checked my water sample I had left when I consulted her and she prescribed the antibs and there was no infection shown so she told me I shouldn't have been taking them.

Jean, hope you feel better soon, it pulls you down when you have cystitus.

Don't know if this has been suggested before but it works for me and I've had some really horrible bouts of cystitis over the years:

I teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of soda in water.

Tastes absolutely foul but it's worked everytime xx

Yes, bicarb is a really old one and works for some people.

Drinking it as I type. I'll let you know how I get on. It should work cos anything that tastes that bad must do some good lol.

Do make sure that you take painkillers as well .... why should you be in pain?

A hot water bottle to sit on and one on you tummy helps ..... the one to sit on helps to kill the burning sensation.

A bottle of warm water to rinse yourself with after you have been to the loo also helps to sooth .

Make sure you dilute the cranberry juice well.

Thanks all of you:)))

Muffy I took your advice and got through the night only getting up 3/4 times and not too painful at all but this morning I was back to square one so have seen a doctor who has prescribed an antibiotic and drink as much as I can.

Viv....you trying to make me feel worse. My piles are bad enough without sitting on a hot water bottle pmsl.

Another trick I learnt when I had two bouts of cystitis was that the active ingredient in the powders you get from chemist is sodium citrate. If you look around the house you are bound to have some somewhere. Its in a lot of the Hi Juice squashes, lemonade and cheap cola. This came in handy for me as my second bout started on a bank holiday.
I now keep some sachets in the medicine box and hope I never have to resort to them again. Cystitis with kidney infection twice in less than a month is not an experience I wish to repeat!

afraid none of the usual ways stopped mine and have had to go to Drs 3 days with on off pain aint funny you think its gone then comes back now on tablets to clear infection.

must remember to get more powders in as have used my stock of them hate the things and have drunk gallons of milky tea while just sitting on loo waiting for it to run through.

Janet its amazing how quickly it can go to your kidneys I ahev always been susceptable to it and was in hospital when I was little because of it so sympathize and think until someone has it they dont realise how painful it is
